CMCC Position cod. 12703 Specialist on crop modelling and climate-risk assessment Deadline: March 22th, 2025 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are looking for a Post Degree to perform short term consultancy aiming to support crop modelling activities, including parameterization and validation based on observed field data, with a specific focus on climate impact assessment. The candidate will collaborate with our scientists at Impact on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services (IAFES) division, based in Sassari. To learn more about this opportunity and submit your application, please refer to the following: ROLE The candidate is expected to evaluate the effects of climate change on agricultural systems through crop modelling. These assessments will involve process-based crop models and/or machine learning tools to estimate crop growth stages, biomass, and crop yield under projected climate conditions. Specific duties include parameterization and validation of crop models with respect to experimental data, simulations under climate change scenarios, to predict crop yield by using historical data and outputs from crop growth model, analyses of model outputs. RESPONSIBILITIES The Specialist on crop modelling and climate – risk assessment will support the IAFES division with: Parameterization and validation of crop models based on measured dataRunning simulations under climate change scenarios Analysing model outputs to quantify uncertainties and assess potential impacts. REQUIREMENTSBSC or MSC in Agricultural Science or equivalent subjects. Expertise in crop modellingProgramming skills in Python, R, or similar languages. Experience with geospatial analysis and visualization tools. Very good knowledge of the English language, with strong communication skills for collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITSPlease note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally. The appointment period will be of 4 months. The gross annual salary range is 6000 to 9000 Euros, depending on qualification and working experience. Flexible working time as per internal policies.
