Offer DescriptionA call is open for a selection procedure on the basis of candidates' qualifications, integrated by a possible interview, for the assignment of one "PostDoctoral Research Grant" of the duration of one year, with a possible extension, entitled: "Activity of research and development of HPC software within the European "SPACE" Center of Excellence.

This selection based on qualifications and possible interview is aimed at the acquisition of one personnel unit qualified in the development and structural evolution of the OpenGadget code for cosmological simulations within the activities foreseen by the SPACE project.

The activity will be focussed on the optimization of the code for increasing both the efficiency on the single-core and the scalability on several cores with the aim of making it an exa-scale ready code.

The specific activities will include the restructuring of data layout and of loops with the aim of increasing vectorization, refining multi-threading parallelism by use of OpenMP, application of advanced technologies for one-sided communication in MPI, and offloading on GPU.

The research activities envisaged for the grant will be carried out at the INAF-OATs, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Luca Tornatore.

The fellowship is aimed at this specific research project, and is not announced to program long-term recruitment either for the Institute or for the project itself, but to offer the opportunity to carry out research activities in the framework of the project to candidates who deem it useful to their professional growth.

We specify that the aim of this selection procedure is to offer the opportunity of professional development to young candidates holding research master degrees, to research fellows and to fixed-term contract staff who wish to engage in the national and international research environment.

Skills/Qualifications:

Participation to the selection is reserved to Italian and foreign citizens holding the following minimum requirements: Master degree issued according to the previous Italian University regulations or Degree (2nd level) either in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics, also if awarded abroad.

PhD degree either in Physics, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics or equivalent degree, also if awarded abroad, or at least 3 years of documented experience performed at Companies, Universities or qualified Institutions, organizations or Research Centres, both public or private, both in Italy and abroad in the topics pertinent to the scientific and technological area and the research sector relevant to this Call.

Good knowledge of the English language, both oral and written;Experience in parallel programming and knowledge of advanced techniques both for OpenMP and for MPI and GPU offloading via OpenMP and/or OpenACC;In-depth knowledge of the programming languages C and C++ of the Linux operating system, and of application benchmarks and data-intensive computing. Specific Requirements:

In addition to the requirement mentioned, applicants to this Call must possess the following: Registration in the electoral lists of their residence place (for Italian citizens only); Age not less than eighteen years; Enjoyment of civil and political rights; No criminal convictions; No pending criminal proceedings.
