Position SummaryThe Assistant/Associate Director reports to the CRF Director and works closely with the Director and the rest of the CRF team. The Assistant/Associate Director manages the CRF application processes and programming related to nationally competitive grants, scholarships, fellowships, and related awards. The Assistant/Associate Director advises students and alumni for nationally competitive awards. The position also supports CRF student research programs and the Presidential Scholars Program (PSP). The Assistant/Associate Director works to ensure that Villanova continues and improves its strong record of accomplishment with nationally competitive fellowships.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesNationally Competitive Scholarships and FellowshipsOversees internal nomination and application processes, application management systems, applicant tracking, skills development pedagogy, and applicant surveying for nationally competitive awards, such as the post-graduate Fulbright U. S. Student Program, U. K. Awards (Rhodes, Marshall Scholarships), and related awards. Together with the CRF team, develops strategies to support processes, outreach, skills development, and advising for younger-year nationally competitive awards (Gilman Scholarship, Boren Scholarship, Truman Scholarship, US-UK Fulbright Awards, Fulbright MITACS, Udall Scholarship, and others). Promotes fellowship opportunities to the Villanova community. Engages in outreach to college administrations, academic departments, student support units (CASA, Honors Program, Office of Education Abroad, Athletics, etc. ), student organizations, alumni. Together with the Director, liaises with University Communication and Marketing to create press releases about recipients of national awards and Villanova fellowships milestones. Maintains relationships with Villanova fellowships alumni, creating opportunities for further engagement, presentations, etc. , as alumni. Represents CRF on University committees pertaining to international engagement and student professional development. Maintains membership in the National Association of Fellowships Advisors (NAFA), attending conferences and training when relevant. AdvisingAdvises Villanova students, alumni, and faculty on applications for nationally competitive fellowships. Organizes and leads mock interview processes for fellowships (Fulbright U. S. Student Program Semifinalists, other administered awards). Provides regular professional development consultations for Presidential Scholars. Advises Villanova students on applications for research programs (internal and external). Program Support & AdministrationCreates surveys and manages data collection and analysis for fellowships. Manages data collection and analysis for CRF's advising program of 3500+ annual student, staff, and faculty advising appointments. Together with the CRF team, manages technology partnerships and systems used by CRF. Manages and updates information on CRF website. Completes room reservations, expense reports, periodic reporting on fellowships outcomes. Additional duties and assistance with special projects, as assigned. As part of the CRF team, serves as a member of a Scholar Selection Committee, assists with Interview Program, Scholar Academy, and other PSP activities, as needed. Serves as a member of the Presidential Scholars Program Professional Development Award committee and makes recommendations on awards on a monthly basis. Assists with student research programs such as the Villanova Undergraduate Research Fellowship (VURF), the Villanova Research Symposium, and training sessions on the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. May supervise Graduate Student Workers (GSW) with Director, managing hiring and separation for GSWs. May train GSWs to provide application support to applicants for national awards. Minimum QualificationsFormal EducationBachelor's degree required. Work ExperienceAssistant Director: A minimum of three (3) years' experience working with students, staff, and faculty. Experience working with the Fulbright U. S. Student Program or similar administrative experience in fellowships. Administrative, planning, and programming experience. An Associate Director level will be considered for candidates with a minimum of five (5) years' experience as outlined above. In addition to this experience, prior or current experience as a Fulbright Program Advisor (FPA) required for the Associate level. Work SkillsExcellent communication skills, both written and oral; strong organizational skills; good decision-making skills; ability to work independently with limited supervision and the ability to work collaboratively; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines; ability to handle sensitive material and information confidentially. Specific Job KnowledgeKnowledge of student advising principles and national scholarships and fellowships. Equipment KnowledgeMust have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency and ability to learn software and reporting systems. Data management skills required. Preferred QualificationsFormal EducationMaster's degreeWork ExperienceThree (3)+ years' experience working with students, staff, and faculty.
