Posting Details Posting Number: 20244231S Position Title: Associate Director for Collection Management Position Type: Staff Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Avg Hours Week: Department: 243-Law School Library Position Summary: The Associate Director for Collection Management reports to the Law Library Director and is responsible for supporting the students and faculty of the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law through library administrative operations and coordination of services and collections designed to advance legal research, scholarship, instruction, and learning. Duties and Responsibilities: Administration: Serves as a member of Law Library's Administrative Team to develop policies and procedures and advise the Director Supervises the work of the Law Library Administrative Coordinator and the Access and Collection Associate In consultation with the Director of the Law Library, manages the Law Library budget Coordinates and supervises Law Library acquisitions, including purchasing, payment, and accounting In consultation with the Director of the Law Library, establishes and implements Law Library policies and procedures pertaining to acquisitions, cataloging, and government documents Provides training and guidance to other staff members as needed Participates in long- and short-term strategic planning, facilities management, space planning, and technology initiatives Builds and supports Law Library relations with the Law School, the University, Falvey Library, library consortia, and professional organizations Participates in disaster response planning Oversees and coordinates annual statistical reporting as required Ensures that Law Library services are delivered in an efficient, accurate, and professional manner Manages projects as assigned Cataloging: Catalogs materials in all formats at a professional level Searches, imports, and edits OCLC records for Lucidea Genie Plus library system Creates or revises online bibliographic, inventory, and check-in records Creates original cataloging records when needed Evaluates and repairs complex serial cataloging problems Processes new materials with spine labels, barcodes and ink stamps Answers cataloging questions and solves cataloging problems Collection Maintenance: Supervises book collection maintenance activity Oversees shelving and coordinates collection shifting and weeding projects Conducts binding on an as-needed basis Integrated Services Library Management: Serves as backup to the Head of Digital Initiatives to manage and maintain the Lucidea Genie Plus library system Works closely with Falvey Library to manage and coordinate the integration between the Lucidea Genie Plus library system and the VuFind discovery layer Law School Archives: Supervises the Law Library's collection of Law School archives, including overall planning of archive organizations Implementation and maintenance of the Lucidea ArchivEra system Procurement of new archive materials, particularly digital materials Communication with law school staff regarding archive materials Accession processing of new archive materials Updating archive inventory documents Overseeing digital scanning of archive materials Contributing materials to the Law Library's digital repository Government Archives: Manages Villanova Law Library's membership in the Government Documents Federal Depository Library Program Ensures compliance with Depository Library standards Reviews and revises the Government Documents selection list Library Service: Serves actively in Law Library and Law School committees as well as professional organizations at national, regional, section, and local levels in order to contribute to the profession, grow professionally, and stay abreast of current law library trends Collaborates with Falvey Library to enhance Law Library services and collections Minimum Qualifications: M. L. I. S. from an ALA accredited institution required; J. D. from an ABA accredited institution required. Will consider at least ten years' experience as a professional law librarian in an academic setting in lieu of a J. D. Advanced knowledge of legal publishing processes and publications. Professional knowledge of, and training in, cataloging and database management. Knowledge of all aspects of law librarianship and law library management, professional development and law library trends. Advanced knowledge of library cataloging rules. Advanced knowledge of integrated library systems. Knowledge of electronic and print legal resources, including government documents. Advanced statistical and accounting abilities. Five years' employment as a professional academic law librarian in an academic setting with at least one year of supervisory experience in technical services or collection management. Ability to navigate change management. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact and work productively with a variety of people. Analytical ability to apply principles to problems. Strong diagnostic skills, problem solving skills, and project management skills. Methodical attention to detailed procedures and patience with repetitive processing activities. Perseverance and goal-orientation for special projects. Ability to create a supportive, productive, effective, and efficient work environment. A commitment to diversity and inclusion. Intellectual curiosity and initiative. Advanced knowledge of Windows applications, including word processing and spreadsheets, as well as internet-based applications. Advanced knowledge of the Lucidea Genie Plus library system. Advanced knowledge of OCLC bibliographic databases. Facility with multiple printer applications and barcode scanners. Familiarity with library digital scanning equipment. Knowledge of University budget and payment software systems. Preferred Qualifications: Strength to lift and move books. Extended standing for collection maintenance projects. Sitting for extended periods of time. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
