Bioinformatician, Neurogenomics Research Center
APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: December 31th, 2024
**Human Technopole (HT) **is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health.
HT is composed of five Centers: Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, and Health Data Science.
The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.
The **Davila-Velderrain group **at Human Technopole is looking for a **Bioinformatician **to computationally support research projects in the group.
**About the lab**:
The **Davila-Velderrain Group** combines computational biology and collaborative experiments to understand the nervous system from an integrative physiological and genomic (PhysiOmic) perspective.
We are interested in understanding how cells of the nervous system evolve, develop, and collectively (mal)function across biological realms.
We use computational modeling to integrate genomic and physiological data, together with in vitro and in vivo experimental systems to uncover mechanisms underlying cell (patho)physiology and their impact in organismal behavior.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**:
- Support the establishment and maintenance of in-house neurogenomic databases and computational tools.
- Perform day-to-day analysis of biological data from single-cell transcriptomic sequencing experiments, proteomics, epigenomics, and electrophysiological recordings
- Independent research on methods development and/or integrative analyses would be also encouraged and supported.
- Collaborating with colleagues to generate and refine research plans and contribute to developing innovative tools and methodologies.
- Compile and organize publicly available datasets relevant for neurogenomic research ensuring integrity, accuracy, and accessibility to biological data for researchers.
- Train scientists and staff on best data analysis practices and provide guidance on standard data handling procedures.
- Supporting the dissemination of research findings by collaborating on scientific publications and conference presentations is highly encouraged.
- Supervise students on technical aspects of data analysis.
- Act as a key point of contact for computational operations, supporting both staff and researchers.
Applicants with a computational background and experience or interest in brain biology and electrophysiology are encouraged to apply.
**Essential requirements**:
- Fluency in English - HT is an international research institute.
- Knowledge of at least one programming language (R, Python, and/or C++).
**Preferential requirements**:
- Software engineering experience in R and Python for data analysis and scientific computing.
- Documented experience in omics data analysis (scRNA-seq, scPatch-seq).
- Experience in reproducible and collaborative computing (e. g. , GitLab, Conda, package generation).
- Ability to independently develop, optimize, and implement research support protocols.
- Experience in using HPC systems (SLURM queue manager and bash scripting)
- Experience in network science, mathematical modeling, and/or machine learning.
- Experience in modeling electrophysiological properties of cells and signal analysis.
**Other key competencies**:
- Passion for science
- Independence
- Creative thinking
- Adaptability
- Excellent communication skills
- Problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability and disposition to work in an open, transparent, and highly collaborative team
**Application Instructions**:
- a CV.
- a motivation letter in English relating your track record to the specifics of the call.
- names and contacts of 2 referees.
