Birth Parent Support Specialist (630)
Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: Provide weekly group instruction in the areas of developmental milestones, appropriate parenting decisions, and basic parenting skills, using a trauma-focused perspective. Provide individual support to selected parents regarding treatment goals and visitation in order to achieve the identified Permanency Planning Goal. Assist in providing supervision of visitation on identified cases. Document all contacts in progress notes in Connections. Work with the treatment team to ensure everyone is working towards attaining the identified Permanency Planning Goal. Principal Assigned Responsibilities Provide group instruction in the areas of developmental milestones, parenting decisions, and parenting skills. Provide individualized parent training and goal development with a focus on trauma-informed care. Participate in weekly staff meetings. Ensure detailed documentation is entered timely and appropriately. Provide supervision/feedback to the identified clients whom s/he is assigned. Provide pre and post visitation meetings with the identified clients focusing on coaching family visits, strategies, and techniques. Communicate strengths and areas of need of the identified caseload/clients to the respective treatment teams. Complete related tasks/duties as assigned by the Treatment Team Supervisor. Education And Experience Requirements Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Minimum of one to three years' successful human service experience working with a high-risk population and/or community-based services. Works with families to develop strategies with children when there are behavioral concerns. Supports the parenting role by providing relevant information about child development and learning. Strong oral, written, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative working relations with agency staff, involved agencies/individuals, and regulatory bodies. Understanding of basic needs and developmental issues of children in a way that promotes growth and respects individuality. Asks age and developmentally appropriate questions and actively listens to children's responses. Develops a warm, positive nurturing relationship with each child. Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect. Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures. Valid New York State Driver's License.
