Call For Expression Of Interest For Msca Postdoctoral Fellowships At Unige – N. 15 Application []
Department of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering (DICCA)Description - Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025The University of Genoa (UNIGE), located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality with an excellent track record to apply for the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025.
Our University has been a beneficiary of several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. The MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship is a funding scheme of the European Commission's Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersectoral exchanges. The MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training, and networking costs.
The research projects will have a duration of 2 or 3 years. Selected candidates will receive special support for proposal writing and development. The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCA@UniGe.
Selected candidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal.
This masterclass is designed to support candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposals, including prescreening activity of draft proposals and the organization of dedicated B2B meetings, facilitated by the European Research Office of UniGe, National Contact Point, and other experts. The masterclass will take place in May/June 2025. MSCA domain: Environmental and Geosciences (ENV); Physics (PHY);Research Project DescriptionThe main thematic areas revolve around the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in synergy with various models, aiming to bolster predictions and analyses across several critical sectors of environmental science.
There is a strong focus on integrating AI with climate projection models, enabling more refined long-term environmental forecasting and providing decision-makers with robust insights into future climate scenarios.
Through these enhanced models, researchers can better anticipate shifts in temperature, precipitation patterns, and other key climate variables, thereby improving preparedness and resilience strategies. Another pivotal domain involves AI-driven strategies in weather prediction, where machine learning algorithms are employed alongside traditional numerical weather prediction frameworks to refine both short-term and medium-term forecasts.
By learning from vast quantities of atmospheric data and adjusting dynamically to incoming observational updates, AI can help meteorologists generate more reliable storm track forecasts, rainfall predictions, and other crucial weather-related warnings. Finally, the use of AI in pollutant dispersion modeling constitutes a major area of exploration, aimed at understanding and mitigating the environmental impacts of various contaminants.
By combining sophisticated machine learning techniques with physical dispersion models, researchers can achieve more accurate projections of how pollutants travel through air or water systems.
Such insights are vital for assessing potential risks to public health and ecosystems, informing policymakers and environmental agencies, and guiding the development of more targeted remediation and containment strategies. Research GroupThe department is actively engaged in a broad range of topics addressing environmental challenges, including those related to deterministic modeling and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence approaches.
Its research spans climate projections, weather forecasting, pollutant dispersion, and other critical areas, leveraging advanced methodologies to tackle pressing environmental issues.
The department fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation to drive impactful solutions in environmental science and technology. For the MSCA-PF 25 call (opening foreseen on 9th April 2025), at the deadline for the submission of proposals (10th September 2025), postdoctoral candidates shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Italy (for European Fellowship) or in the Third Country of the outgoing phase (for Global Fellowship) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline.
