Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 The University of Genoa (UNIGE), located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality with an excellent track record to apply for the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025.
Our University has benefited from several MSCA-PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is a funding scheme of the European Commission's Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersectoral exchanges.
The MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training, and networking costs.
The research projects will have a duration of 2 or 3 years.
Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development.
The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass.
Selected candidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-day online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal.
This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposals, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organization of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of UniGe, National Contact Point, and other experts.
The masterclass will take place in May and June 2025 , with the first online training session scheduled for the 8th May 2025.
Research Group The Department of Experimental Medicine (DIMES) provides a dynamic and collaborative research environment that encourages innovative and interdisciplinary work.
With access to state-of-the-art technology and a highly skilled team, the department offers a solid foundation for successfully carrying out this research project.
The research team consists of experienced scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD students, focused on energy metabolism evaluation in physiological and pathological conditions, with particular emphasis on cancer and Fanconi Anemia.
Their collective expertise spans cellular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, and immunology, fostering a multidisciplinary setting where diverse perspectives drive scientific breakthroughs.
This stimulating environment offers new team members the chance to collaborate with experts, contribute to pioneering research, and further develop their scientific careers in a supportive and resource-rich setting.
A significant strength of this team is its collaboration with three major hospitals in Genoa — IRCCS Policlinico San Martino, Ente Ospedaliero Ospedali Galliera, and IRCCS Istituto Gianna Gaslini — all of which maintain established partnerships with the project supervisor.
These institutions provide access to advanced equipment, hands-on training opportunities, and valuable interactions with leading clinicians, facilitating both sample collection and the clinical interpretation of data.
DIMES at the University of Genoa (UNIGE), in conjunction with IRCCS Policlinico San Martino and IRCCS Istituto Gianna Gaslini, grants researchers access to a broad array of cutting-edge core facilities essential for conducting high-impact studies.
Animal Facility – Fully compliant with national and international standards for animal care, including a dedicated unit for immune-compromised animals.
Proteomics and Metabolomics analyses – Offers a well-equipped proteomics and metabolomics core facility.
DNA Sequencing – Featuring an Applied Biosystems Hitachi 3130x Genetic Analyzer, ION S5 (Thermo Fisher), and Illumina NGS platforms (MiSeq and NextSEQ 500).
Flow Cytometry & Cell Sorting – Access to advanced cytometry tools, including FACS analyzers, two FACSAria II sorters (Becton Dickinson), an Imaging Flow Cytometry system (ImageStream, Millipore), and a well-maintained cell and tissue bank.
This well-integrated research infrastructure, combined with strong clinical collaborations, ensures that investigators have the necessary tools and expertise to drive impactful discoveries in the field of bioenergetic research and beyond.
For the MSCA-PF 2025 call (opening foreseen on 9th April 2025), at the deadline for the submission of proposals (10th September 2025), postdoctoral candidates shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Italy (for European Fellowship) or in the Third Country of the outgoing phase (for Global Fellowship) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline.
