The Position: Delivery of the School-focused Youth Services (SFYS) ReCONNECT Project to the San Remo and Dudley Campuses of Bass Coast College (BCC) supporting students with school attendance issues to re-engage with education. This includes working directly with vulnerable young people referred to the program to address barriers to attendance and their parents/carers to build their capacity and confidence to support their child's connection with education.
To Be Successful in this Position You Will Need: A relevant tertiary qualification at Diploma level in Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist, and/or related behavioural sciences. A Victorian Driver's Licence. Early identification and intervention through working with the school well-being staff to refer students (that meet the target group criteria) into the project.
Support and referral for case management to a maximum of 60 children/young people at risk of disengaging from education, referred to the project by the above school/s over the duration of the project. Support the parents/carers of the above children/young people referred to the project by providing parenting strategies, advocacy and advice, and building their capacity to be more confident to participate in their child's learning, manage the child/young person's behaviours, engage with their teachers/school community, identify home learning opportunities, and understand the funded education supports available to their child/young person.
Support to the student's siblings, where required.
Referrals of children/young people to other external specialist support services such as mental health services and/or community social/emotional well-being programs, where required.
Assistance to children/young people and families transitioning/transitioned from primary to secondary school. Capacity building for school staff by supporting them to address the specific well-being needs for the children/young people and families/carers who are disengaging from education, understand the pathways and referral methods for available support for students and families/carers, and with secondary consultations around well-being and risk.
Flexible outreach approach that enables support at places and times that best serve the family. Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
