Organizational Setting: The Agrifood Economics and Policy Division (ESA) conducts economic research and policy analysis to support the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) is a global, multi-partner innovative initiative to facilitate decision-making with improved food security analysis.
Reporting Lines: The Communication Officer (IPC) reports to the Economist, IPC Deputy Global Programme Manager, under the overall guidance of the Senior Programme Coordinator/IPC Global Programme Manager and ESA Director.
Technical Focus: Coordinate, manage and implement major selected deliverables of the IPC Global Strategic Programme (GSP).
Key Results: Result-oriented team leadership and a communication strategy that ensures that the IPC Initiative is positioned as a global leader in food insecurity and malnutrition analysis.
Key FunctionsPlans and delivers programmes, products, and services including media relations and communication activities.
Analyses information and data to support effective communication delivery and preparation of plans.
Provides specialist advice and expertise to internal and external partners.
Manages special projects and provides guidance to consultants.
Develops information and training materials to increase understanding of programmes.
Develops performance criteria and indicators to evaluate programmes.
Specific FunctionsDesigns and implements the IPC communications strategy.
Provides leadership and guidance to IPC communication activities.
Develops advocacy and marketing materials to promote IPC analytical findings.
Designs visual communication products for audiences.
Develops country communication plans for food crises.
Supports technical staff in producing effective messaging on IPC Classifications.
Improves IPC media relations by coaching technical staff.
Supports the drafting and publishing of IPC Technical Guidance and Standards materials.
Analyzes traffic and usage statistics of IPC web and social media messaging.
Provides communication support to key IPC partners.
Provides support to IPC training initiatives.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGAdvanced university degree in communication or related discipline.
Seven years of relevant experience in communication development.
Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.
Technical/Functional SkillsWork experience in multiple locations or areas of work is desirable.
Experience in communication strategies and tools.
Experience in training methodologies and community practices.
Ability to analyze communication issues in decision-making.
Ability to systematize and share experiences.
Relevant experience in food crises contexts is a strong asset.
