Components Engineering & Requirements
Thales people architect and deliver satellite-based systems that help position, connect and observe our planet, and push the boundaries of our understanding of planet's resources.
Our systems are in orbit at 400 km, 20000 km, 36000 km and beyond to the edges of the solar system.
The resource shall support the Domain Engineering in preparing and maintaining a global equipment catalog suitable to support the development of the Space Exploration & Science projects.
This shall be achieved balancing technical requirements, equipment lead time and costs.
The activity requires to interface with the Products Line Managers, the Engineering Departments, the Purchase and Supply Operations Department, CTO department and will imply also contact with Customers and Suppliers
Key duties:
- Understanding the architecture of Space Exploration and Science products and programs
- Understanding the different program needs in terms of Equipment and Components (technical, schedule, cost)
- Harmonization of equipment specifications coming from different projects replying to different Customer requirements and applicable documents
- Definition and maintainment of the Equipment catalogue with the necessary level of detail (technical, schedule, cost) to support project execution and preparation of competitive proposals
- Understanding of equipment technical specifications
- Understanding of equipment design & development overall lifecycle
- Mastering of main driving requirements with the capability to synthesize among different projects and applicable documents
- Optimization of equipment and components needs across projects to enhance standardization of Equipment and achieve cost and schedule optimizations
- Support the definition of projects and bids planning
- Support the Make/Team/Buy process
- Support the PVET process
- Support the market research for potential new equipment suppliers
- Identify new business opportunities for Domain Exploration & Science products and define value propositions
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
- Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
- At least 5 years of experience in equipment and components design and/or procurement (knowledge of thermo-hydraulic components will be considered an asset)
- Knowledge of Product Line Engineering
- Knowledge of DOORS will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project
- Strong written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills
- Planning capabilities
- Critical thinking
- Storytelling
- Comfortable with uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity
- Understanding of (space) systems engineering concepts
- Fluent in English language
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams
