**About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally.
This involves strengthening Australia's security, enhancing Australia's prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government.
DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia's pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
**About the Position
Under the direction of the Consular Manager, this position delivers consular, passport and notarial services to Australians at the Australian Embassy in Rome.
**The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to**:
- Provide a range of consular, passport and notarial services to Australian citizens and permanent residents in Italy and other countries of accreditation (San Marino, Libya and Albania) in accordance with Australian Government guidelines and legislation.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with relevant stakeholders, including local authorities and service providers.
- Operate consular and passports related databases and filing systems.
- Maintain financial and accountable documents in accordance with regulations.
- Participate in contingency planning exercises.
- Assist with the Embassy's responses to significant consular events and crises in countries of accreditation.
**Qualifications/Experience
- Language skills: Fluency in written and spoken English and Italian.
- Sound interpersonal skills and strong capacity to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Client service experience and an ability to assist people facing difficult and sensitive situations.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
