Job Title: Senior Software Developer ARV Consultant Type of Contract: When Actually Employed Consultant Division: ARC African Risk Capacity Duty Station (City, Country): Remotely based Duration: 55 days in 2024 with the possibility of extension Reporting to: Director, Research and Developments Department (RND), ARC African Risk Capacity (ARC) is a Specialized Agency of the African Union. The ARC Agency leads the ARC Group, a development finance institution that provides financial tools and infrastructure to help countries manage natural disaster risk and adapt to climate change. Responsibilities: Leading the timely production of the annual ARV Drought Calculation Engine and input data for ARC Ltd to underpin each new insurance pool. Support integration of tropical cyclones and flood components into ARV platform, and the development of additional analysis tools required to support the implementation of these new risk modules. Testing and cross-checking new releases to ensure accuracy and consistency of calculations across all ARV products. Contributing to the further design and development of ARV Desktop, including its user interface and functionalities. Contributing to development of server-based functionality, data storage and distribution as emphasis will shift to web-based applications. Ensuring all products are robust, secure and work efficiently in a range of environments. Organizing and implementing localization of the software and its products. Providing support, input and guidance to collaborations with technical partners on ARV. Performing other tasks as directed by the Director of Research & Development. Deliverables at the End of The Contract: Timely, seasoned technical assistance to the ARC Development Team and RD Department, with fully documented code satisfying the outlined responsibilities. Qualifications and experience required: Education: Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or other relevant quantitative discipline. Experience: Minimum of 12 years of experience in software development and systems applications. Knowledge & Skills: Strong problem-solving capabilities and strategic view across large complex programmes. Languages: Fluency in English; another ARC working language (French or Portuguese) is a strong asset.
