Position Information: Posting Number: 240068 Job Title: Instructor Pool - Biology - Florence Campus Department Information Our Science Department on the Florence Campus is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty to teach in-person Biology such as Cell Biology for Health Professions, Cell Systems, Organismal Systems, and Ecosystems. This is an application pool posting for 2024-2025, starting Fall term 2024. The assigned location for this position is at the Lane Community College Florence Campus located in Florence, Oregon. Classes may include BI 101, 102, 103, 112, depending on candidate experience and department needs. Instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following division and college procedures in support of teaching and learning. Application Information Provide all documents as requested. Location: Florence Classification: Part-time Faculty Position Type: Contracted Part-Time Faculty Anticipated Start Date: Fall Term 2024 Salary/Wage: Hourly The Part-time Faculty benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability and paid sick leave. Part-time faculty may be eligible for full contracted benefits after meeting certain criteria. Working Schedule: Classes as assigned by Division Dean based on need, enrollment and availability of contracted and/or more senior part-time faculty. Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree (MA, MS) in Biology from a regionally accredited educational institution. Conditions of Employment: Successful applicants are required to complete a criminal background check. Infractions do not necessarily disqualify a candidate, and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Education: A doctorate in Biology and extensive familiarity with Biology Education Research. Preferred Experience: Experience with community college student populations. Experience with online teaching. Experience with learning management systems. Experience teaching with evidence-based Biology pedagogies. Position Purpose: To provide high-quality instruction that meets established learning aims and outcomes for students in Cell Biology for Health Professions (BI 112), Biology: Cell Systems (BI 101), Biology: Organismal Systems (BI 102), and Biology: Ecosystems (BI 103). Essential Functions: Effectively teach biology courses as assigned by Division Dean. Engage in collaborative curriculum development and revisions with colleagues. Make effective use of current web technology and computer application programs for instruction. Help design and implement accurate formative and summative learning assessments to support courses' aims and objectives. Provide a supportive learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and needs. Must be willing and prepared to accommodate students with needs for modified instructional materials. Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students. Other duties as assigned. Support student learning through activities that include: Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures. Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching. Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations. Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation. Ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory. Meet accreditation requirements. Online Teaching and Student Support Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI). Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success. Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback. Provide timely responses to student inquiries. Ensure that all materials created comply with College Policies and Procedures for technology and accessibility. This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Teaching biology to general lower-division college populations. Common student learning difficulties and appropriate uses of technology in teaching. Ability to: Integrate these elements into curricula and teaching to effectively engage students in learning. Manage a classroom and teach using a learning management system. Design and use classroom assessment techniques and assessments of student learning.
