Join us in the Legal Team and you'll work managing various legal aspects of the business of Philip Morris Italia Srl and Philip Morris Manufacturing and Technology Bologna SPA ("Affiliates") in a wide range of matters.
You'll work in close relationship with business colleagues (including the management of the Affiliates), as well interact with members of the Law Department, with the final aim to reach business objectives in a manner consistent with relevant laws, regulations and PMI Principles & Practices.
Your 'day to day'
As a Legal Counsel you will work with affiliate, regional and Law & Compliance teams and business colleagues for the two affiliates operating in Italy to provide quality, business-centric and timely legal analysis and advice in a wide variety of business activities and initiatives to enable PMI's Smoke Free Future vision coherently with relevant laws and regulations and PMI positions.
You will participate in the implementation of departmental practices and objectives in the Italian market.
You will also have the chance to work closely with other Legal Counsels and the Senior Counsel and join a team of six qualified layers (including you).
Key responsibilities will include:
- Represent the Legal team and provide timely, accurate and business orientated legal analysis (advising, negotiating and providing legal documents) in a wide variety of areas, with a focus on contract drafting in the beginning, but with objective to increase exposure also to other areas such as competition law, marketing, sales, employment issues, regulatory matters, commercial and corporate law, compliance, digital and data protection and any other matters as required.
- Be involved in the budget of the Legal team, also proposing more effective and cost-efficient ways to manage it.
- Ensure that outside counsels are managed cost-effectively, in accordance with agreed budgets and deliver work product on time and in line with expectations.
- Share issues of common interest and knowledge with the other members of the Legal team including information on commercial initiatives and proposals, legal and regulatory developments and best practices for advising clients.
- Take initiative and help to ensure the provision of optimal legal support for business clients and certain other global or regional project teams using both internal expertise and services of outside counsels where required.
- Participate in the development and implementation of departmental plans and objectives to support the business initiatives.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams with other members of the business, ensuring that their decisions and recommendations protect the legal interests of the company, and execute decisions to achieve objectives on a timely basis.
- Provide training to employees of Philip Morris as needed, including on compliance topics such as anti-bribery and competition law.
- Manage commercial disputes and regulatory investigations in a cost effective and commercial manner to ensure the best outcome for the company.
- Remain objective at all times while promoting compliance with the letter and spirit of the law and company policies.
- Display consumer-centricity and solution-oriented qualities in providing advice to the business.
- Counsel and advise with both short and long term views and risk.
- Ability to manage work-load and set priorities according to business needs
Who we're looking for
- Law degree.
- Admitted to Bar.
- From 6 to maximum 9 years experience (post-graduation) in a relevant area of law from a well-regarded law firm and/or a multinational company (ideally FMCG or Pharma).
- Solid experience contracts' drafting and negotiation;
- Experience in Competition law and a LLM abroad are considered a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple, conflicting priorities while managing a substantial workload and client expectations.
- Understanding of business objectives, by thinking through the practical implications and anticipating future business and legal needs.
- Experience in working successfully in a highly results-oriented and performance-driven environment with a focus on excellence.
- Robust interpersonal, networking, public speaking, and writing skills, with the confidence and credibility to act quickly, communicate effectively with diplomacy and civility, and command respect of both internal and external audiences.
