Offer Description The planned activity consists in the development of UV polarizers for spectropolarimetry applications of emission lines from the Sun.
The scientific objective is to obtain a measurement of the magnetic field of the solar corona.
The magnetic field determines the static and dynamic structure of the solar corona and consequently the morphology of the heliosphere and all the phenomena associated with the so-called "space weather".
The goal is to develop devices capable of measuring the linear polarization of spectral lines in the extreme UV, using the polarizing properties of birefringent materials or reflection techniques on multilayer optical coatings.
Among the objectives is to provide a coronagraph (telescope that creates an artificial solar eclipse) that uses this technology, in collaboration with INAF.
