Background:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies, and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. The Director of Culture and Inclusion will play a pivotal role in ensuring that WFP remains at the forefront of cultural transformation, embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) into the core of the organization's values and operations.
Role Purpose:
The Director of Culture and Inclusion leads WFP's efforts to develop, and maintain a culture that reflects its commitment to Duty of Care, and Inclusion. This role provides strategic oversight of both the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and the People and Culture Coordination (PCC) units, ensuring alignment with WFP's strategic objectives and fostering an environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and supported. A critical aspect of the role is executing a comprehensive strategy that promotes inclusion across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and lead the execution of WFP's culture and inclusion strategy, aligning it with its mission, vision, and long-term objectives. Hold accountability for transparent and efficient people management, and ensure the best use of financial resources for the achievement of set objectives.
- Integration: Provide strategic and operational support to the PCC and DEI units, ensuring that culture and inclusion initiatives are integrated across all levels of the organization.
- Mainstreaming: Elevate and mainstream culture and inclusion within WFP, ensuring that these values are embedded in the organization's daily operations, policies, and strategic goals.
- Duty of Care: Lead and design, the implementation of the Duty of Care Framework, ensuring that the health, safety, and well-being of all employees are prioritized.
- Values and Respect+: Oversee the implementation of the Values/Respect+ programme, promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and ethical behavior throughout WFP.
- Budget Management: Coordinate and manage budgetary support for Corporate Critical Initiatives (CCI), ensuring efficient resource allocation to support Duty of Care and inclusion efforts.
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of the DEI Strategy, promoting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment that enables all employees to thrive.
- Leadership Development: Manage a leadership development programme on inclusive leadership and DEI topics, equipping leaders to champion inclusion effectively.
- Advocacy: Serve as an internal and external advocate for DEI, promoting WFP's commitment to inclusion while working with senior leadership to embed WFP's cultural values into strategic planning and daily operations. Act as a cultural ambassador for WFP, ensuring consistent messaging and advocacy of cultural initiatives both internally and externally
- Performance Monitoring: Establish and monitor KPIs and metrics to assess the effectiveness of culture-related programs, using data-driven insights to refine and enhance strategies.
- Continuous Improvement: Incorporate feedback and emerging trends to ensure culture and inclusion initiatives remain relevant and effective.
- Collaboration: Engage with key stakeholders, including HR, internal communications, and other departments, to ensure alignment of cultural strategies with business objectives.
- External Representation: Represent WFP in external UN networks and forums related to corporate culture, DEI, and organizational development, showcasing WFP's leadership and commitment in these areas.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A minimum of 13 years of progressive experience in culture strategy, diversity, equity, and inclusion, or related fields, with at least six years in a senior leadership role within a global organization.
- University degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management, Psychology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or other relevant disciplines. Additional certification and training in DEI are desirable.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing culture and inclusion strategies at a high level within a global organization.
- Deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, with a demonstrated ability to lead and champion DEI initiatives.
- Experience leading cultural change initiatives, with a strong ability to influence and drive organizational transformation.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire across all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting data to inform strategy and making decision-making.
- Strong project management skills, functional ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams effectively.
- High emotional intelligence, with a deep understanding of cultural sensitivity and the ability to navigate diverse environments.
- Visionary leader passionate about culture, people, and continuous improvement.
- Fluency (level C) in the English language.
- Fluency (level C) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language). Fluency in additional languages is welcome.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This is an International Professional position and is open to all nationalities.
Mobility is and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is however classified as "non-rotational" which means the incumbent shall not be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as rotational. The selected candidate will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a probationary period of one year. This position is open to both internal and external candidates.
WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in line with ICSC standards (http://icsc. un. org) including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days' annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, a pension plan, and medical insurance.
The selected candidate will be required to relocate to Rome, Italy to take up this assignment.
