This position presents an exceptional opportunity to drive trade compliance excellence and ensure adherence to international trade laws and regulations.
As the Director of Export Compliance at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. , you will play a crucial role in developing efficient work procedures and ensuring compliance with export regulations, corporate policies, and global trade compliance management systems.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Collaborate with Corporate, Group and Divisional resources to drive strategic direction of trade compliance processes, ensuring robust compliance management across all countries and regions.
- Provide Global Trade Compliance (GTC) leadership to the LSG, BPG, and LPG groups, elevating the overall level of knowledge and compliance.
- Implement company-wide initiatives focusing on GTC, including initiatives to measure performance, projects to reduce costs, and the implementation of automated tools or systems related to GTC.
- Identify and implement short-term and long-term strategic cost savings strategies.
- Lead a diverse team in multiple countries to deliver results that contribute to Thermo Fisher's performance and growth.
- Stay up-to-date with export regulations and ensure all functions/personnel are informed of changes.
- Develop and conduct regular global trade compliance trainings across businesses and functions.
- Mentor and develop team members in various aspects of export trade compliance.
- Implement methods to communicate trade compliance performance for sites and functions in the group.
- Manage the integration of acquired companies.
- Implement ongoing enhancements to improve productivity, quality, and operational excellence.
- Liaise with freight forwarders, customs officers, government agencies, and internal/external customers on export regulations.
- Interpret complex sets of regulations and implement relevant requirements for the group.
- Mitigate risk through proactive process management and adherence to policies, standards, and laws.
**Non-negotiable Requirements**:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Global Trade Compliance.
- 8-10 years of demonstrated experience managing global trade compliance activities in a multi-national company.
- Experience with direct supervision of activities involving global export.
- Ability to read and interpret government regulations.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver in-person training.
- Solid judgment and the ability to work autonomously.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and ambiguity.
