United Way of Collier and the Keys Job Description Position Title: Director of Community Impact Reports to: President and CEO Job Type: Full-Time, Exempt Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40+ hours a week, occasional nights and weekends Location: Naples, FL Position Summary This position is responsible for managing the programs and volunteer engagement strategy for UWCK, establishing the organization as a leading community mobilizer.
Key duties include: • Program Oversight: o Oversee internal programs such as VITA, the Community Investment Grants process, and other assigned programs in Collier and Monroe Counties.
• Volunteer Center Management: o Develop and manage a comprehensive database of volunteer opportunities.
o Provide support and training to volunteers and partnering agencies.
o Create strategies to engage the community and corporate partners in volunteerism.
• Disaster Response Coordination: o Coordinate volunteer mobilization and management during disasters.
This role ensures effective management of volunteers and programs, continuous improvement, and significant community impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Volunteer Center Management: • Design, implement, and lead the volunteer engagement strategy by positioning UWCK as the premier community mobilizer of volunteers.
• Develop and manage a comprehensive database of volunteer opportunities by recruiting new agency partners, continuously updating both the software platform and associated website, and conducting training sessions on how to utilize the platform effectively.
• Provide technical support and training to volunteers and partner agencies to enhance their understanding and utilization of the platform.
• Create strategies to engage community members, donors, and corporate partners in strategically aligned volunteer experiences that deepen their connection to the work of UWCK and agency partners.
• Develop a recruitment plan that includes communications, volunteer job descriptions, and screening/placement procedures.
• Build and maintain relationships and regular communication with local nonprofits and schools to ensure a steady supply of projects are available for both individual and corporate volunteers.
• Prepare and maintain documents related to volunteer management, including policies and procedures, job descriptions, training manuals, etc.
• Speak to community groups to advance UWCK's volunteer program visibility and build a talent pool of volunteers actively engaged with the Volunteer Center platform.
• Work with communications staff to execute strategies to promote the Volunteer Center, recruit volunteers, and recognize volunteer contributions.
• Manage the entire volunteer lifecycle, from application to onboarding to stewardship; includes gathering and integrating volunteer feedback to continuously improve processes.
• Lead information sessions to engage new individuals and partner agencies with the Volunteer Center.
• Serve as a liaison between partner nonprofit agencies and corporate partners to develop and coordinate employee volunteer opportunities.
Disaster Response: • Develop, deliver and maintain a comprehensive strategy for mobilizing volunteers and establishing and managing a Volunteer Reception Center, both virtual and physical, during a disaster.
• Collaborate with local LTRG/COAD/VOAD groups and other organizations to support disaster relief and recovery efforts and provide leadership in the areas of volunteer recruitment, mobilization, and deployment.
• Coordinate with county and state emergency operations centers and attend operational period briefings and situation report meetings as required.
• Recruit and manage volunteers to work with organizations and nonprofits to support disaster response and recovery efforts.
• Promote UWCK's role in disaster response through outreach efforts, including education around planning for and utilizing spontaneous volunteers; provide training to businesses and civic groups on disaster response and associated volunteer opportunities.
• Ensure that all volunteers are screened, briefed, tracked, and maintained throughout their work period.
• Gather and present data and reports to demonstrate the impact of the Volunteer Center.
Other Program Responsibilities: • Supervise Community Impact staff as assigned.
• Manage all aspects of the VITA program, including recruiting, training, and managing volunteers and tax site logistics; coordinate with IRS to ensure all requirements are met.
• Manage the Community Investment Grants process, including recruiting and managing volunteer committees, supporting nonprofit partners, managing the grant application and award process, annual reporting, and evaluation of results.
• Oversee and support other programs in both Collier and Monroe Counties as assigned.
• Develop and maintain effective systems to track program data, demographics, and progress; regularly evaluate program effectiveness and impact for continuous improvement.
• Support communication of community impact priorities, recommendations, and needs via written reports, monthly meetings, and other strategies as needed.
• Assist in the content development for communications related to programs; maintain a record of inspiring stories to demonstrate program impact.
• Identify and build partnerships with new constituencies and maintain existing relationships to enhance programs.
• Provide support in the development of UWCK's strategic planning, resource alignment, development of the annual budget, and regular monitoring of expenses.
• Attend community events to promote Volunteer Center and other United Way programs and services.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: ï Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit, communications, PR, or related field; equivalent life experience accepted ï 5 or more years of experience in program management or related area ï 5 or more years of experience managing large groups of volunteers ï Background in complex organizations of commensurate size and scope ï Disaster response experience highly preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ï Understanding of and commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of United Way ï Skilled at effectively presenting information and ideas to executive teams, volunteers, community partners, and the board of directors ï Comfortable facilitating groups and managing committees ï Experience with data management and reporting ï Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders to inspire trust ï Outstanding interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to communicate positively within all levels of the organization and in the community ï Thrive in a dynamic environment and able to work on various projects simultaneously.
ï Committed to exploring new ideas and innovative approaches to solving problems ï Ability to plan, organize, and perform various duties, applying a wide range of procedures and rules ï Attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy, reliability, timeliness, alertness, and use of judgment ï Fluent in the English language, both oral and written; Spanish proficiency preferred ï Ability to complete basic math and review and interpret reports and graphs ï Proficient in the latest Microsoft Office Environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Desirable, But Not Required: ï Understands the local community and the unique challenges and opportunities available Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
