**The Role
We are looking for a **Director of Hardware Engineering** to lead our hardware team in the development and production of our medical wearables.
As the Director of Hardware Engineering, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on people's lives by leading a multi-functional team of talented Mechanical, Electronics, and Software Engineers in the development of innovative medical devices.
Given the complexity and the external dependencies that you will face you need to be broad enough on your knowledge to resolve multiple types of problems.
You have to be pragmatic and time-efficient to be able to keep the timeline under control.
And finally, you need to be a well-balanced leader able to keep under control the pressure, able to be communicative and humble to interface with a diverse group of cultures and people while keeping them accountable on the delivery.
You will:
- Work closely with the CEO, CTO, GM, CMO as well as other Directors to ensure that our hardware devices are developed and manufactured in line with the company strategy
- Define company's objectives and key results with other Empatica Directors
- Define a strategy plan to achieve objectives that fall under your domain of responsibility as a Directorof Hardware Engineering (introduction of new products, changes to existing products, manufacturing to have products available in our warehouse)
- Define objectives for you team and lead it on a daily basis to accomplish results by allocating resources, solving problems and making decisions
- Work with the product team, regulatory team, and data science team in order to define and reflect requirements into our products and to coordinate cross-functional initiatives
- Coordinate the communication with design firms, suppliers, contract manufacturers and other external companies on which your timeline depends
- Create effective partnerships with external vendors/stakeholders to ensure quality and excellence at all levels
- Anticipate and identify relevant technology trends
**Responsibilities**:
- Deliver company OKRs on time
- Make decisions (technical and non-technical), escalating questions as needed
- Set clear, attainable, and measurable goals for the team and support the delivery of those goals by removing roadblocks and giving steer
- Evaluate individual's performance based on goals set and provide regular feedback with 1:1s
- Communicate with other senior managers to coordinate initiatives and make decisions across teams
- Explain company vision, strategy, and OKRs and put individual's work into context

**Technical Requirements**:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in hardware development & manufacturing, including experience leading a team
- Excellent project management skills
- Experience in medical device development and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Experience with design for manufacturability and mass production
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Fluency in English
