Organizational Setting The Statistics Division (ESS) has supported the production of reports on the impact of disasters and crises on agriculture and food security since 2015. These publications have become a central pillar of FAO's work on improving resilience in agriculture and investing in disaster risk reduction.
Reporting Lines The Consultant will work under the supervision of the Technical Editor of the report in ESS.
Technical Focus The Consultant will support the Technical Editor and the report team to ensure the timely and effective preparation of technical material for the 2025 edition of the Impact of Disasters on Agriculture and Food Security publication.
The Consultant will work in one or more of the following related domains:
Disaster losses and damages in agriculture and its subsectors. Resilience and risk analysis. Relevant international monitoring frameworks and related indicators. Food security and nutrition statistics. Geo-spatial statistical applications and spatial analysis. Digital technologies and innovations for reducing disaster risk. Tasks and Responsibilities Collect, review, and verify relevant data and statistics. Contribute to and draft the content of the report. Undertake analysis and provide technical input for plans and reports. Participate in the development of improved statistical tools. Research literature and explore potential data sources. Support the peer-review and internal FAO clearance process. Participate in the organization and follow-up of meetings. Update related databases and web pages. Support the finalization of the Report. Support the launch of the Report. Perform other related tasks as necessary. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Minimum Requirements Advanced university degree in Disaster Risk Reduction, Statistics, Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a related field. For junior consultants: At least 3 years of relevant experience. For senior consultants: At least 10 years of relevant experience. Working knowledge of English. FAO Core Competencies Results Focus Teamwork Communication Building Effective Relationships Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement Technical/Functional Skills Limited knowledge of any of the other UN official languages will be an asset. Experience in economic and policy analysis of disaster risk. Authorship or proven contribution in publishing analytical reports. Knowledge of programming software such as R. Demonstrated ability to manage and present quantitative information. Experience of working in more than one country or region. Excellent report writing skills in English.
