Drone Pilot/Geospatial Field Technician
Our client is seeking self-motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic individuals to travel nationwide to collect survey-grade 3D data using a variety of platforms, with a focus on drone photogrammetry.
The ideal candidate will be willing to travel long distances from their base of operations, sometimes for weeks at a time, and able to work both independently with no direct supervision and on a team.
Adaptability, attention to detail, and willingness to learn are essential to success in this position.
IMPORTANT: There is a great deal of nationwide travel associated with this job, often requiring extended periods away from home including weekends or holidays.
Almost every week Geospatial Field Technicians are scheduled for jobs more than a few hours from their home location.
Many jobs are a day's drive away or greater.
Geospatial Field Technicians have a very heavy schedule, likely requiring work in the field daily, traveling away from home for weeks at a time, and working several weekends each month.
Who You Are: As a Geospatial Field Technician, you are a detail-oriented professional dedicated to accurate data collection at customer sites across the country.
You are skilled in using various geospatial methods and equipment, adapting to diverse environments to ensure precise information gathering.
Your work plays a crucial role in helping our clients navigate their changing landscapes, providing them with the insights they need to make informed operational decisions.
In this Role, your Responsibilities Will Be: Perform survey-grade topographic scans of Landfills and Mining Operations using a combination of mobile LiDAR, drone photogrammetry, and total station equipment.
Conduct manual flights for powerline and utility visual inspections.
Conduct pre-flight and post-flight operations, including but not limited to airspace coordination, equipment assembly and tear-down, and hazard mitigation.
Be responsible for the operation and maintenance of supporting equipment including a 4x4 truck, computer workstation, on-board inverters, and batteries.
Perform quality checks on collected data to ensure accuracy and meet the client's needs.
Serve as a point of contact with clients regarding project scope, scheduling needs, deliverables, and follow-up.
For this Role, You Will Need: Strong ability to learn and master multiple software packages, data collection platforms, and associated workflows.
High attention to detail and organizational skills.
Must have a current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License or ability to obtain one.
Preference will be given to candidates with applied knowledge of surveying references such as coordinates systems, projections, datums, and geoids, and experience in land development, mining, solid waste, or similar industries.
Physical Demands: Willingness to travel away from home for extended periods, often longer than three weeks.
Ability to drive for extended periods unsupervised.
Exposure to extreme weather conditions.
Working around industrial hazards.
Must be able to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to hardhats, protective eyewear, boots, safety vests, and 2-way radios.
Perform physically demanding work involving frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing up ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting and carrying equipment up to 60 lbs.
