The Editorial and Media Officer will be responsible for developing high-quality editorial content and driving media engagement efforts to advance the mission of Caritas Internationalis.
The role includes planning, creating, and curating written and multimedia content for various channels and building relationships with press and media contacts to maximise visibility and outreach.
The officer will work closely with the communication team and other departments to ensure consistent messaging and effective advocacy.
Under coordination of the Director of Engagement and in close collaboration with the communications team members, the Editorial and Media Officer will: Responsibilities Editorial Content Development to develop, edit and proofread engaging content for press releases, articles, reports, newsletters, social media, and the Caritas Internationalis website; to collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex information into accessible, impactful stories; to develop content aligned with Caritas Internationalis's mission, objectives, and tone; to plan and maintain an editorial calendar and coordinating with relevant teams on upcoming publications and campaigns; to produce multimedia content (images, videos, infographics) as needed for various platforms.
Press and Media Engagement to build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets to secure coverage for Caritas Internationalis initiatives; to draft press releases, pitches, and other media materials, adapting messaging to different audiences as required; to monitor media coverage and provide regular analysis and reports on Caritas Internationalis' visibility.
to organise press events, such as briefings, press conferences, and media site visits.
Strategy and Reporting to support the development and implementation of the editorial and media strategy in line with Caritas Internationalis' strategic priorities.
to track and measure the impact of content and media outreach, producing monthly and quarterly reports on engagement metrics and media mentions.
to identify and leverage emerging trends, digital tools, and new media opportunities to improve outreach and engagement.
to provide training and support to staff and spokespeople on media best practices, messaging, and public speaking.
Qualifications University degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies or related field.
5+ years of experience in editorial content creation, media relations, or journalism, preferably within an NGO or non-profit setting.
Proven experience working with media outlets and managing press outreach.
Excellent English language skills: in writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a strong portfolio of published content.
The knowledge of French, Italian and/or Spanish is an asset Proficiency in digital publishing tools, CMS platforms, and social media management software.
Proficiency in graphic design, video editing and content creation tools (e. g. , Adobe Creative Suite).
Strong understanding of media landscape and trends in social media, digital content, and multimedia storytelling.
Experience in crisis communications and/or advocacy communications.
Capacity to work in a diverse team and a multicultural environment with a spirit of respect and service; Ability to work collaboratively, prioritise effectively, and manage multiple deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and comfort in engaging with media and stakeholders.
Knowledge of international policy issues, development and humanitarian communications.
Understanding of an "accompanying attitude" and ability to promote it with Member Organisations; Capacity and willingness to be flexible and to work well under pressure; Capacity and willingness to work with discretion regarding matters of high confidentiality or importance; adaptability, flexibility and availability to travel in different countries, even with short-term notice; Experience in Caritas or other Church organisations would be an asset; Innovative thinker with creative ideas to streamline Caritas Internationalis content outputs; Demonstrable empathy and respect for the faith and values of the Catholic Church; Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching in which Caritas' works in firmly rooted This list of duties and responsibilities for each role is not exhaustive, and the post holders may be required to undertake other relevant and appropriate duties as required.
