The EHS Manager directs the day to day operations in all aspects related to safety and environment.
The incumbent ensures effective safety and environmental support and advice to management in the areas of occupational safety, emergency response management, industrial hygiene, biosafety and all environmental matters.
The incumbent ensures that operations in all functional areas within the site are carried out according to Italian and EU legislation and J&J expectations and standards for all matters regarding safety and the environment.
The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS management systems and programs; the active promotion of a strong site environmental awareness and safety culture; the collection, reporting and analysis of key metrics; and ensuring appropriate training is provided to all site employees
The purpose of EHS Managers is on-site implementing of recovery or improvement directives and the objectives defined by the various Site Leader/General Manager, the EHS Campus Lead and additional site or corporate roles.

**Operational**:
- Shared responsibility with site General/Plant Manager for EHS performance at the site.
- Partners with site leadership team to develop and implement an EHS Strategy & tactics to address EHS program deficiencies and ensure EHS regulatory compliance.
- Collaborates with site leadership team to strategic objectives for improving the site's safety and environmental performance, or specific improvement actions and/or corrective measures; Audits, analyzes, documents, and reports on their implementation and effectiveness to leadership via dashboards, reports & management reviews
- Serves as single point of EHS contact for Site Leadership teams.
- Oversees the development and implementation of EHS practices, procedures and management systems
- Serves as a key contact with relevant government agencies; regulators and EHS groups - liases on new developments and undertakes to complete all necessary reporting to these bodies
- Communicates and provides ongoing consultation to leadership on business impacts of EHS and changes to national/state/local EHS laws, regulations and trends
- Completes the Global & internal Audit program with active participation in system and technical audits; Ensures timely corrective actions are taken when EHS hazards are identified
- Responsible for site EHS department including budget (Cost & CAPEX)
- Leads and develops EHS professionals at site.
Sets and monitors goals/objectives/assignments, provides adequate coaching/counseling, develops and monitors employee development plans, and provides recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning process.
- Leads/facilitates site EHS committees/teams/Union to ensure implementation of the EHS program.
- Monitors and evaluates EHS risks of operations, including organizational change, ensuring continuous improvement of the EHS program to make it leaner and more efficient.
- Maintains local ISO certifications (and other voluntary certifications, VPP/OHSAS) by ensuring site EHS management systems are aligned & maintained consistent with ISO and/or program standards.
- Develops and implements EHS training strategy for the site, ensuring key risk and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires.
- Develops relationships with other functions (e. g. , engineering, facilities) to ensure EHS aspects are considered at the beginning of new/changing operations and to lead aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers and contractor programs
- Leads incident/accident investigations and ensures prevention measures are developed and monitored.
- Defines CAPA for short, medium long term to improve performance EHS (capex) & leads timely & effective completion.
- Collaborates with J&J Operating Company leadership teams; operational functional leads, EHS regional leaders and business unit leaders on EHS issues relative to major proposals; operations; services and activities; plans and the implementation of key projects.
