Quirico 19/D, Genova WHO WE ARE The Wearable Robots, Exoskeletons and Exosuits Laboratory (XoLab) is part of the Dept. of Advanced Robotics, directed by Prof. Darwin Caldwell. This large department focuses on an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to robot design and control, and the development of novel robotic components and technologies for applications in medical, surgical, and rehabilitation robotics, exoskeletons and force augmentation, manipulation and dexterous manipulators, telepresence and teleoperation, industrial automation and robotics, active perception and learning, inspection robotics, hyper-redundant robots, robot dynamics and "fast" robot and robots for hazardous environments.
YOUR TEAM You will be working in a multi-disciplinary group, where researchers from a range of scientific and engineering backgrounds collaborate to create novel solutions to key problems in robotics.
The position is within XoLab, coordinated by Dr. Jesus Ortiz. This is an inter-disciplinary group, with experts in wearable devices, exoskeletons, mechatronics, human-computer interaction, biomechanics, and human factors. The research outcomes are targeted at developing novel wearable robots to assist workers during manual handling tasks, with the aim of reducing the risk of development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Development and integration of custom electronics systems; Firmware and low-level system programming; Integration of the electronic systems in robotic devices; System-level testing; Electronics technical support. This open position/research is financed by "INAIL ("Istituto Nazionale per l'Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro" – Italian National Worker's Compensation Authority)" within the "Sistemi Cibernetici Collaborativi – Esoscheletro Collaborativo 3 (Collaborative Cybernetic Systems – Exoskeletons 3)" project.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in electronics engineering or related fields; Required experience developing and integration of electronic systems; Experience developing firmware and/or low-level programming in C/C++; Experience with robotic devices; Good command of spoken and written English; Creative and proactive attitude; Strong team player. ADDITIONAL SKILLS Experience with multi-threaded programming with OOP languages, e. g. , C++, Python, etc. ; Experience with version control software, e. g. , git (GitHub, Gitlab, etc. ); Experience with exoskeleton and/or wearable devices development; Good communication skills; Strong problem-solving attitude; Spirit of innovation and creativity; Good at time and priority management; Ability to work in a challenging and international environment; Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
