About The RoleWe are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer with amazing skills to master wearable devices.
You will be part of the team responsible for the design and development of Empatica hardware products. We need a passionate engineer with a good knowledge of embedded systems ranging from low-level control of sensors (both digital and analog) to the use of Bluetooth Low Energy communication (including custom profile development with data compression and security). What You'll DoAs an embedded software engineer, you will be responsible for developing and improving the firmware that runs on our wearables.
You will design, build, and maintain a stable, reliable, and extensible architecture and monitor the devices on the field.
You will interact and collaborate with team members from many areas: hardware, mobile, data science, and design. Software architecture design for embedded systems on top of real-time operating systems, such as FreeRTOSDevelopment of custom data transfer protocols using Bluetooth Low Energy technology and techniques for data transfer optimizationInfrastructure for over-the-air firmware upgrade, from custom protocol to image provisioning and distributionProgramming and testing different types of sensors, such as IMU, Magnetometer, and PPGOptimizing the power consumption to extend the battery life of our wearablesDesigning and maintaining custom filesystems that rely on different types of non-volatile memoriesAutomated testing for on-target integration tests, production end-of-line testing, and power bench measurementsSome important detailsEmpatica operates in an international environment with offices in Europe, the US, and Korea.
All work is conducted in English. We are operating a hybrid model where our employees choose whether to work from home or come to the office. RequirementsAs the ideal candidate for this position you:Have a genuine interest, passion, and motivation for Empatica's missionHave a strong academic background, BS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, but MS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is preferredHave past experience as an Embedded System Engineer in a company that designs/manufactures medical devices, wearable devices, or IoT devicesHave excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skillsAre an autonomous person, with good organization and management skillsKnow RTOS, multi-threading, mutexes, timers, memory management, etc. Know ARM architecture, instruction set, and developing and debugging with ARM toolsAre proficient in English (mother tongue is highly appreciated)Life at EmpaticaYou will join a fast-growing, international, and diverse team of 110+ talented people who care passionately about what we do and the difference we are making in the world.
