Emergency Management Specialist
DutiesYou will assess emergency program strategies (e. g. , objectives, deadlines, goals) to determine resources needed. You will advise management and staff on emergency management policies and procedures to verify compliance with federal or Department of Defense (DOD) regulations. You will brief management on findings, recommendations, or issues associated with emergency management training, exercises, and events. You will analyze methods and techniques to improve emergency response capabilities. You will create emergency management guidelines to establish new procedures, support organizational mission changes, and complete related studies. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations. This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision. You may be directed to deploy on short notice in advance of or in response to major incidents within the Region to augment Regional ERG operations or installation-level EOC staffs. You may he required to receive an annual or pandemic influenza vaccine. When augmenting Regional ERG operations or installation-level EOC stafs may require physical demands at incident scenes to help coordinate response in support of the Incident Commander, and serve as the eyes and ears of the EOC OIC on scene. Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Participate in emergency management and disaster control planning, training, and operations to maintain compliance with regulations; 2) Develop and recommend integration Emergency Management Services (EMS) capabilities within structure fire and emergency criteria for installations and regions; 3) Advise senior leadership on emergency management procedures that comply with standards and maintain an acceptable level of risk to mission operations; and 4) Monitor program readiness (e. g. , hazard assessments, checklists) to ensure emergency management efforts yield improved readiness results. EducationN/A ADDITIONAL INFORMAITON CONTINUED:Physical Demands: The work is sedentary and will perform in an office or conference room while seated at a desk or table. You may be required to lift and carry books, files, documents, records, and working papers. A moderate amount of walking and standing is required in getting to and from meeting/conference sites away from the worksite. Work Environment: Most work is performed in a properly heated and ventilated, air conditioned and well-lighted office setting. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
Assignments require occasional visits to industrial areas which involve minimal risk of exposure to various hazards such as toxic material high noise levels explosives, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, high intensity optical and infrared sources, laser light sources and dust/fumes. Protective equipment and clothing are sometimes necessary. Observance of special safety precautions is required.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
Military Spouses and Family Members may apply 30 days before their anticipated arrival date. However, they will not receive preference until arrival at the foreign location. Additional documentation may be required prior to granting preference.
Military spouses and family members who are appointed may not extend longer than 2 months following the transfer of the sponsor from the commuting area of the foreign duty station; 2 months beyond the separation of the appointee's sponsor; or any time beyond the time employee ceases to be a family member.

To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
