The position is located in the Technology and Production Team (NFIAT) in the Sustainable Aquaculture area of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. Reporting LinesThe Fishery Officer (Aquaculture) reports to the Senior Fishery Officer (Environment and Climate Change)/NFIAT Team Leader in the Sustainable Aquaculture area. Technical FocusThe Fishery Officer (Aquaculture) will support the preparation and implementation of aquaculture development plans and programmes that seek to optimize sustainable aquaculture practices. Key ResultsResearch, technical analysis and project related services to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services. Key FunctionsResearches, analyses and provides access to fisheries and aquaculture technical data. Produces a variety of technical data, statistics, information and reports. Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies. Participates in the development of improved technical tools, methodologies, and systems. Collaborates in capacity development activities within Members. Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices. Supports resource mobilization activities. Specific FunctionsContributes to the preparation and implementation of sustainable aquaculture development programmes. Contributes to characterization and conservation of aquatic genetic resources. Contributes to the development of sustainable hatchery and breeding technology. Contributes to initiatives on aquaculture innovation. Contributes to work on aquaculture hatchery technology and seed supply chain development. Performs any other duties as required. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGAdvanced university degree in aquaculture, fisheries, marine sciences, or related disciplines. Five years of relevant experience in aquaculture project development. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language. Technical/Functional SkillsWork experience in more than one location or area of work. Experience of aquaculture hatchery and seed supply. Strong knowledge of management of genetic resources for aquaculture. Experience in drafting technical reports and organizing international meetings.
