Job Description - Fishery Officer (Data Systems) (2500143) Job Posting Date: 15/Jan/2025 Closure Date 05/Feb/2025, 10:59:00 PM Organizational Unit: NFI Job Type Staff position Location: Italy-Rome Duration: Fixed-term: two years with possibility of extension Organizational Setting The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) is responsible for all programmes and activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their sustainable development, focusing on human well-being, food security, and poverty reduction. The Fishery Information and Knowledge Management Team (NFISI) supports web-based information dissemination, communication, fisheries information systems, data management, and digital innovation. Reporting Lines The Fishery Officer (Data Systems) reports to the Senior Fishery Officer (NFISI Team Leader). Technical Focus Plan and lead fisheries and aquaculture information data systems portfolio, providing guidance for improved means of collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of fisheries data. Key Functions Plans and leads components of multidisciplinary teams and provides specialized expertise in technical networks. Develops technical, analytical, monitoring and reporting frameworks, methodologies, tools, systems, and databases. Designs and conducts research, data collection, validation, and analysis to support the development of technical standards and policy proposals. Responds to country requests for technical and policy assistance. Collaborates in capacity development and knowledge sharing activities within Member Nations. Promotes international cooperation and advocates best practices. Participates in resource mobilization activities. Specific Functions Leads IT technical teams for application development related to fisheries and aquaculture data. Manages the complete ICT product life cycle. Monitors and reports on service performance and compliance with service level expectations. Supports IT integration solutions for FAO fisheries products. Provides direction on mobile applications and data analytics for fisheries datasets. Identifies opportunities for digital innovation and continuous IT service improvement. Minimum Requirements Advanced university degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Seven years of relevant experience in delivering digital and information technology solutions related to fisheries and aquaculture systems. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language. Technical/Functional Skills Experience in working with fisheries and aquaculture data/information databases. Experience in managing software development projects and multicultural IT teams. Experience in designing and deploying information systems using SDLC and DevOps methodologies. Proven track record in data gathering and applying AI and machine learning. Knowledge of data collection solutions and cloud technologies.
