Organizational SettingThe Forestry Division leads FAO's work in promoting sustainable forest management and providing leadership on the environmental, social and economic dimensions of forestry, including its contributions to poverty reduction and food security and nutrition.
The Forestry Division also hosts the Secretariat of the Global Fire Management Hub (Fire Hub), which brings together key partners to strengthen countries' capacities for integrated fire management.
Reporting LinesThe Forestry Officer (Coordinator, Global Fire Management Hub) reports to the Senior Forestry Officer/Team Leader of Forests and Climate in the Forestry Division (NFO).
Technical FocusThe Forestry Officer supervises the work of the Fire Hub Secretariat and related projects and initiatives.
Key ResultsComprehensive technical and policy expertise to support the planning, development and implementation of divisional programmes, projects, products and services.
Key FunctionsPlans and leads components of multidisciplinary teams.
Develops technical, analytical, monitoring and reporting frameworks.
Designs and conducts research and reporting activities.
Responds to country requests for technical and policy assistance.
Collaborates in capacity development and knowledge sharing activities.
Promotes international cooperation and advocates best practices.
Participates in resource mobilization activities.
Specific FunctionsProvides inputs into the strategic direction of the Fire Hub.
Oversees the preparation and monitoring of the Fire Hub Secretariat's annual workplans.
Manages implementation of the Fire Hub annual workplan.
Supports the planning and implementation of projects on integrated fire management.
Mobilizes financial resources and maintains linkages with resource partners.
Supports project management functions for trust funds related to the Fire Hub portfolio.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWINGAdvanced university degree in agriculture, forestry, geography, engineering, or related fields.
Seven years of relevant experience in promoting international alliances and integrated fire management.
Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.
Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, Knowledge Sharing.
Technical/Functional SkillsWork experience in more than one location or area of work is desirable.
Extent and relevance of experience in supporting international partnerships.
Demonstrated results-based management capabilities.
Ability to mobilize resources.
Experience in organizing international meetings and training courses.
Depth of familiarity with integrated fire management.
