Organizational Setting The Forestry Division (NFO) leads FAO's work in promoting sustainable forest management. FAO hosts the Secretariat of the Mountain Partnership (MP) which is a United Nations voluntary alliance committed to sustainable mountain development.
Reporting Lines The Forestry Officer reports to the Senior Forestry Officer/MPS Coordinator, NFO.
Technical Focus The Forestry Officer supervises the implementation of the MPS annual work plan and promotes international cooperation for sustainable mountain development.
Key Functions Plans and leads components of multidisciplinary teams. Develops technical, analytical, monitoring, and reporting frameworks. Designs and conducts research and data collection activities. Responds to country requests for technical and policy assistance. Collaborates in capacity development and knowledge sharing activities. Promotes international cooperation and provides technical expertise. Participates in resource mobilization activities. Specific Functions Advocates for the sustainable mountain development agenda. Provides technical input at international meetings. Plans and coordinates communication and outreach activities. Leads knowledge management activities of the MP. Supports resource mobilization efforts. Contributes to project proposal formulation. Liaises with other FAO units for integration of the mountain agenda. CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING Advanced university degree in geography, agriculture, forestry, social sciences or related field. Seven years of relevant experience in advocacy, sustainable mountain development, or related fields. Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language. Technical/Functional Skills Work experience in multiple locations or areas of work. Knowledge of the global mountain agenda and Sustainable Mountain Development. Experience in supporting international partnerships and UN processes. Ability to mobilize resources.
