Description

McIntosh Box and Pallet is hiring for a 1st Forklift Operator in Rome, NY! We are looking for a technically skilled and experienced individual with excellent attention to detail to join our team in Rome, NY as a Forklift Operator.

Pay: $18 per hour Hours: 6am to 2:30pm A Forklift Operator will be responsible for supporting the efficient operation of our lumber facility.

As a Forklift Operator, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities including pre-shift checks, lumber handling, unloading deliveries, and ensuring the organization of the yard.

You will work closely with the sawyers and lead operators to ensure the smooth flow of materials and operations.

Forklift Operator's Job Responsibilities: Pre-shift Forklift Check: Perform a daily pre-shift inspection of the forklift using the provided checklist. Identify and document any issues or malfunctions, ensuring that the forklift is fully operational before use. Report any problems to a supervisor and provide as much detail as possible to assist in troubleshooting. Lumber Handling: Gather and stage lumber packs as needed for the packsaw, Cantek, and Mattison machines based on the daily requirements provided by the sawyer and lead operator. Ensure that the correct packs are delivered to the respective machines to keep operations running efficiently. Truck Unloading: Unload incoming trucks safely and efficiently. Complete the unload sheet with details including the person responsible for unloading, date of unloading, supplier name, pack dimensions, and piece count (fixed dimensions) or board foot (random dimensions). Perform quality checks on all incoming loads, using the provided quality checklist.

This includes checking for issues such as bark seams and rotten cant's. Take photos of any problems and immediately notify a supervisor to ensure the quality of the incoming materials. Lumber Quality Control: Inspect lumber for defects such as bark seams, rot, and other quality issues. Ensure that all issues are documented with photos and reported to the supervisor for further action. Maintain product quality by ensuring only suitable materials are used. Yard Organization and Stock Rotation: Manage the organization of the yard by ensuring that like-sized cants and lumber are grouped together according to the provided layout map. Rotate stock on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the oldest material is used first, prioritizing the front of the rows for older stock. Maintain an orderly yard to improve efficiency and facilitate smoother operations. Proven experience operating a forklift safely and efficiently. Strong attention to detail and ability to document and report issues accurately. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and handling heavy materials. Good communication skills to work with other operators and supervisors. Knowledge of lumber products and quality standards is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly. Ability to operate heavy machinery in a safe and efficient manner. Comfortable working in various weather conditions and outdoor environments.
