Our client, a leading global IT service provider, is recruiting for a FSO (Free-Space Optics) System Engineer to join their business in Italy.

Contact: We are seeking a skilled and innovative FSO (Free-Space Optics) System Engineer to join our dynamic R&D team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge free-space optical communication systems.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of optical communication technologies, contributing to the development of high-speed, long-range communication systems for both terrestrial and satellite applications.
Responsibilities: Lead the design, simulation, and optimization of FSO communication systems, ensuring high performance and reliability.
Conduct research to explore new FSO technologies, materials, and methods to improve system efficiency, data throughput, and signal quality.
Develop system models and conduct simulations using tools such as VPI Photonics.
Perform system-level trade-off analyses to determine optimal system parameters (e. g. , link budget, aperture size, modulation schemes, and error correction).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, optical scientists, and software developers, to integrate FSO solutions into larger communication systems.
Develop and execute test plans for laboratory and field trials to validate system performance, identify improvements, and troubleshoot issues.
Provide technical leadership in system integration, ensuring FSO systems meet design specifications and customer requirements.
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in optical communication technologies and related fields (e. g. , quantum optics, laser physics, beamforming).
Contribute to patent filings, technical papers, and publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and documentation for both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Proven experience in the design and analysis of FSO communication systems or optical communication systems.
Proficiency with system modeling and simulation tools (e. g. , VPI Photonics).
Strong understanding of optical components, such as lasers, detectors, beam steering mechanisms, lenses and modulators.
Experience with link budget analysis, optical alignment, and signal processing techniques used in FSO systems.
Familiarity with environmental factors affecting FSO systems, such as weather, turbulence, and atmospheric absorption.
Experience with optical system testing, performance validation, and troubleshooting in both lab and field environments.
Knowledge of wireless communication protocols, data transmission, and error correction.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with the integration of FSO systems into large-scale communication networks.
Familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to optical communications (e. g. , adaptive optics, beamforming).
Experience with satellite communication systems or long-range point-to-point communication links.
Published papers or patents in the field of optical communications or related technologies.
Experience in a fast-paced, product-driven R&D environment.
