Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about the work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in our work with the UN Organisations in Rome and the Holy See?
We offer:
A traineeship of 6 months within the UN & Holy See Section of the EU Delegation to Rome, Italy, starting on 1 March 2025, subject to budget availability.
The EU Delegation Rome focuses on the UN agencies based in Rome (FAO, WFP, IFAD) and the UN Committee on World Food Security, all concentrating on food and nutrition, agriculture, and rural development within their respective mandates. The UN section is responsible for regular contacts with these organisations, participation in intergovernmental meetings and informal meetings, EU coordination with the EU Member States, and relationship-building and collaboration with the wider membership of these organisations. The Delegation is also the link between the EU HQ in Brussels and the UN agencies in Rome. The small Holy See team is responsible for promoting EU interests in relation to the Holy See, maintaining regular contacts with counterparts in the Holy See and other Embassies accredited to the Holy See, and is also the link between HQ and the Holy See.
Main tasks: Preparing for, attending, and reporting on meetings, briefings, symposia, and conferences at FAO, WFP, IFAD, and the Committee on World Food Security (CFS), the Holy See, and pontifical academies as well as EU meetings. Preparation of briefings and background notes. Drafting reports of meetings, symposia, and conferences. Conducting desk studies (analyses on specific issues or themes in relation to the work of the EU Delegation). Supporting the EU Delegation in the organisation of meetings, events, and negotiations in the UN context. We look for: Qualifications or special requirements: Master's Degree in political sciences, international relations, law, agricultural, food security, or development studies, with a demonstrated interest in the areas the Delegation works on. Very good command of English (written and oral); fluency in at least one other EU language; knowledge of one UN language (apart from English) would be an advantage. Excellent analytical and writing skills (will be checked as part of the selection process). Ability to fulfil work assignments in a team. Flexibility to varying workload: there can be (limited) periods with high workload (especially around UN Governing body meetings) outside normal office hours.
