General Maintenance Worker
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, and general HVAC work.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION Test and replace electrical receptacles, switches, and fixturesPatch and paint minor holes and cracks/crevices in walls and ceilingsRepair/replace sinks, water coolers, and toiletsRepair/replace doors, ADA panic bars, and hardwareRepair/replace floors, steps and sidewalksGrounds work such as snow and leaf removalPerform general maintenance on equipment and machineryAssist with parts, material storage, and inventoryDevelop training programs for teammatesAssist with general HVAC workOther general maintenance, housekeeping, plumbing, and electrical duties as requiredAny and all other duties assigned by your Supervisor/Manager/LeadJOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES EXPERIENCE: Three to five years' experience in general maintenance is desired.
Previous experience in an industrial setting is a plus.
Basic knowledge of HVAC equipment and electrical is also beneficial. SKILLS:Must have good communication skills, have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand EnglishAbility to read blueprints, building plans, and schematics as requiredMust be able to read and comply with work orders concerning service, modification, or installation of equipmentThe ability to use a variety of power tools, hand tools, and meters safelyProficiency in Microsoft Products, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPointADDITIONAL:Hands-on ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Required to work independently and with limited supervision. Comply with all policies, safety guidelines, and procedures; follow all contract specifications and maintain compliance. Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures. Must have a government security clearance or ability to obtain upon hire. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION HS Diploma or GED required. Universal Refrigerant License required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The work environment, while generally hazard-free, may include some exposure to dust and varying temperatures.
This position may require lifting up to 75 pounds with or without assistance.
Constant walking and standing for extended periods of time may be required.
Reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, and balancing may be needed.
Significant hand and finger dexterity is required.
WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT This position is full time (40 hours per week) and may include some shift work including Saturdays and Sundays.
Ability to work overtime as needed.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL This position is designated as essential.
This means that when the facility is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in this position may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the facility.
