General Manager
Role: Port Director/General Manager Location: Italy Our client is an international group working, developing and operating in the Terminals & Ports Industry globally.
They wish to appoint a General Manager for one of their Port facilities in Italy.
As General Manager, you will be the main representative of the legal entity and the primary interface between the entity, the Port Authority, and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the CEO of the Joint Venture, you will have full responsibility for ensuring the successful implementation of the business plan approved by the Board of Directors.
You will be accountable for maintaining the financial viability of the site and its projects, establishing policies and procedures to protect and grow the project, issuing periodic reporting as required by the stakeholders and company governance, overseeing terminal operations, ensuring the accuracy of budgets and financial reports, and maintaining excellent relations with various stakeholders locally and throughout the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Stakeholder Management and Community EngagementAct as the primary point of contact at the port/terminal and interface with management and local officials related to all facets of the operation and achievement of business objectives. Collaborate with relevant public and private institutions to protect and promote the terminal business. Lead and promote positive relationships with cruise lines, ships, port agents, police, pilots, and other organizations to ensure a successful ship call. Serve as an active figurehead of external relations and public affairs, and collaborate with port authorities, tenants, vendors, and associations in the implementation of an approved Community Engagement plan. Be the spokesperson on behalf of the entity when addressing the media and speaking at public events. Terminal ManagementEnsure all passengers are offered the highest and safest service possible when using the terminal facilities. Oversee the development of policies and procedures throughout the port and terminal operations. Oversee the development and implementation of a Health and Safety Plan and monitor compliance with the approved Environmental plan for maintenance and operations. Oversee the development and implementation of a Safety Management System in the terminal in collaboration with the terminal management company, ensuring harmony with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and third parties to minimize accident risk. Ensure the terminal facilities are properly maintained, safe, and always kept in clean condition. In coordination with other stakeholders, oversee the management and implementation of operational activities in the terminal and intermodal areas before, during, and after the ship/guest operations. Monitor guest satisfaction during the guest's use of the terminal and intermodal facilities. Seek continual improvements and take corrective action where needed, manage change, and implement approved recommendations as appropriate. Budgeting, Finance, and General AdministrationPrepare, implement, and manage the development and growth of the company through careful analysis of the context and the market in order to draft suitable short, medium, and long-term strategies. Develop and implement comprehensive revenue and marketing strategies and cost control management for the entity, including management of cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheet maintenance. Review operating results to ensure budgeted goals are achieved and expenses controlled, including monitoring safety, efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness. In coordination with the Board Secretary, call Board and shareholder meetings, propose agendas, and oversee the preparation of board materials. Monthly and quarterly reporting as required by the Board and various stakeholders, both internally and externally. Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, engineering, or another related field. 20+ years of relevant experience in managing complex facilities in the maritime, airport, and/or transportation fields, managing economic and human resources with P&L responsibilities. Senior-level experience in leading a port terminal or leading a cruise line operation would be highly desirable, along with a proven ability to build personal networks within the industry.
