Germplasm Development Scientist (m/f)
Bayer Crop Science is seeking a brilliant candidate to serve as a Germplasm Development Scientist. You will drive the application of Precision Breeding technology for Product Development for EMEA Crops. Providing technical leadership and insight to prioritize develop, implement and advance innovations into the pipeline.
A high level of collaboration with stakeholder functions will be key to success. Serving as an interface with Product Design and late product development this role will be key to enabling customer orientated product advancement.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead pipeline engineering and breeding roadmap design for product development including the stage plan
Define and continuously improve breeding schemes and precision breeding to maximize realized genetic gain in the pipeline
Provide the key interface between Product Design and EMEA Product development units optimizing line delivery according to commercial product needs
Drive cognitive pipeline analytics and AI models implementing data science and digital driven breeding pipeline using state of the art analytics of phenotypic and breeding data across locations and seasons.
Drive inbred and product diversity analytics and germplasm enhancement / global leverage program, lead the germplasm component of product systems and diversity
Design germplasm evaluation (Nursery & Yield trials) and drive prescriptive testing for product development and production systems
Design and implementation of COG's testing and evaluation plans to improve hybrid producibility
Act as a key stakeholder across Product Units for execution of above strategy
Lead pipeline optimization efforts across programs and crop
WHO YOU ARE:
Master's Degree in Agriculture/Biotechnology or PhD
At least 4 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated capabilities to develop, execute and evaluate complex programs
Excellent knowledge of quantitative genetics, breeding and population genetics
Good informatics skills and open-to-digital approach
High flexibility to respond to changing environments and to adapt to new situations and work in a team
Strong project management skills managing complexity
Strong ability to work with cross-functional partnerships and to influence others to drive results and innovation with customer orientation
Fluent knowledge of English is mandatory, good knowledge of Italian is preferred
