Network Orchestration for Metaverse Applications in 6G NetworksThe Ubiquitous Internet Research Unit ofIIT-CNR(Pisa, Italy) is seekingtalented university graduatesfor research opportunities.

We are currently collectingexpressions of interestfor the following research topic:Network Orchestration for Metaverse Applications in 6G Networks. We plan to open positions at the level ofGraduate Research Assistantin this area.

This scouting process aims to promote the topic in preparation of the upcoming call.

The position at IIT-CNR is expected to be formally announced soon, with activities starting inApril 2025. Ideal candidates should hold aMaster degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or closely related disciplines. Knowledge ofoptimisationapproaches, andAI/ML(ML) techniques is an advantage.

Experience in network orchestration, network slicing, or architectures for immersive services is preferred but not required. Topic descriptionEmerging cross-reality (XR) applications – including holography, augmented, virtual, and mixed reality – demand unprecedented levels of Quality of Experience (QoE), far exceeding current capabilities.

6Gtechnologies and enablers such as xURLLC, NFV, nativeNetwork Intelligence, promise to meet these stringent QoE requirements, deliveringultra-reliable, low-latencycommunication services.

However, as network complexity escalates, it becomes essential to designautomated network and resource orchestrationmethods to optimise network performance proactively and adaptively across the entire end-to-end network architecture, ensuring alignment with the target KPIs. This research aims to design and develop new AI/ML models, optimisation methods and scheduling algorithms fornetwork orchestrators and controllers in future 6G networkstosupport emerging XR applicationsover heterogeneous domains and complex network scenarios without a globally synchronised system.
