GROUP DIRECTOR ACCOUNTING, TREASURY and TAX (Industrial Group backed by PE)The Client, the 'pitch': Our Client is an industrial group, recently acquired by a leading global investment manager, mainly operating in the maritime and port logistic activity.
Key facts & figures: Operating through 5 multipurpose port terminals, with 200+ employees, the group is able to discharge about 6 million tons of dry-bulk goods annually and offer a holistic solution to customers, from cargo handling to warehousing.
Main products include cereal and seeds (30%), anthracite and other minerals (30%), semi-finished steel products (30%) and fertilizers.
FY24 Revenues approx.
€85M and EBITDA c. €14M, the Client is highly profitable, stable and cash generative.
The group owns significant real estate in the port area, which is composed of about 380, 000 sqm of owned terminal area, of which 200, 000 sqm are buildings (warehouses, storage, offices).
The new shareholders are investing in the leadership team to strengthen the organisation and drive growth.
In this context, a new CEO has joined the company and is seeking to hire for key positions to drive a successful transformation.
Finance plays a key role within the group: with the arrival of a new CFO, it is pivotal to establish a strong team, one of which is the onboarding of the new Group Director Accounting, Treasury and Tax (GDA).
Position – The role: The Group Director Accounting Treasury and Tax (GDA) will be accountable for the integrity of the financial information throughout the Group, through the improvement and maintenance of an effective control environment.
This is a key partnering role in enhancing performance profitability and value creation, as well as encouraging continual improvement, while working alongside the new CFO.
Position – Specific responsibilities: Transformation of function: Responsible for transforming financial control into a best-in-class operation meeting the PE Fund expectations.
The GDA will work with the CFO to evolve the vision for Finance and deliver and lead a best-in-class financial management capability, whilst communicating effectively the company's financial performance to key stakeholders.
Process: Strengthen the overall control environment through process improvements , ensuring business engagement and buy-in.
Accounting - Transaction Recording and Reporting: Ensure all financial transactions and commitments are properly authorised, recorded, filed and reported.
Provide accounting team operational guidelines to manage accounting records in accordance with Managerial Reporting requirements.
Focus on strong cash flow, ROI and working capital reporting.
Accounting - Policies: Ensure proper internal financial controls are in place and regular documentation over key controls applied is available (e. g. , accounting reconciliation, DoA properly adopted, etc. ).
Ensure all internal, external and regulatory financial standards are met.
Financial Compliance: Ensure all regulatory and internal financial standards are met, including timely completion of the annual audit of financial accounts.
Treasury and Tax: Ensure both sub-functions are managed with best-in-class processes.
The effective responsibility over these two areas will be calibrated according to the real capabilities of the candidate.
Project Management: Take accountability of current and future projects, to elevate the financial function across the group, as well as to optimize post-merger activities.
IT Systems: Be a key contributor to a key upcoming project – the selection and implementation of a new ERP system.
Board Presentations: Work closely with the CFO and other stakeholders to ensure that information produced integrates cleanly and efficiently into business planning and analysis.
Support / present financial data and insights to support strategic decision-making.
Third Party Relationships: Maintain relationships with relevant individuals at accountants, banks, and other key external partners, together with the CFO.
Team Leadership: Manage a team of professionals; some upskilling to address, yet rooted on solid company knowledge.
Position – Critical priorities: Take up the mantle from a Big4 that is currently supporting the finance function and has already conducted a comprehensive diagnosis of the current state, documenting specific areas for improvement.
They are currently working to improve the monthly closing process and reviewing internal controls.
Requirements: University degree in Economics ; MBA a plus.

Strong accounting background with a solid experience (10+ yrs) of running a finance team and working in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Potential for managing Treasury and Tax, on top of Group Accounting.
Distinctive track record in building financial environment from an immature state to best-in-class.
Proven experience of process implementation and improvement , with experience in upskilling and professionalising a finance function (including IT / ERP systems).
Solid technical background , having dealt with challenging technical financial reporting and accounting issues.
Strong analytical attitude and attention to details, beyond a significant ability to manage large amounts of data and complex files.
Key skills include: Real team player with leadership potential and strong attitude for improvement and change.
Used not only to face complexity, but to do it in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
Must be organized and be able to manage time effectively, working under pressure delivering on time and on quality.
Quantitative approach with a business lens and mindset, capability to identify risks as well as opportunities and provides insights.
Mature relationships management skills , to interact properly at all levels of the Organization (Plant Directors, Process & Technology Director and Operations team).
