**ROLE SUMMARY**:
We are seeking an outstanding Head of Music to lead and deliver the Music programme at our Caviglia campus, in the south of Milan.
We are a school known both for our high academic standards and our warm, friendly community.

As Head of Music, you will be responsible for developing first class provision in curricular and co-curricular music.
A keen musician yourself, you will be a positive ambassador for arts participation within and beyond the school.
Whether singing or playing the piano, conducting the choir or co directing a piece of theatre, your love for all things musical will be a source of inspiration to the whole school.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Leading the planning, delivery and ongoing evaluation and quality assurance of curricular and co-curricular music programmes in the school
- Planning and teaching engaging, ambitious schemes of learning and lessons, with a focus on skills progression to children across the school
- Developing the music school facilities, instruments, and equipment, so maintaining an inspiring learning environment
- Building a strong network with other Heads of music in our Italy network to maximise opportunities for workshops, concerts, joint planning and PD days.
- Promote and celebrate music and singing within and beyond the Caviglia community
- Organise and supervise regular recitals, concerts, jams, open mics, and other opportunities, both formal and informal, for students to perform
- Lead the House music programme of termly competitions and awards
- Identify individual musical talent and work with parents and external bodies as appropriate to support these individuals to excel in their chosen instrument
- Review and revise all policies and departmental documentation to ensure they reflect international gold standards
- Line manage the peripatetic music programme teachers, ensuring the quality of private lessons; creating the lesson schedules and managing the calendar and coordination of this aspect of musical provision
- In addition to the above leadership responsibilities, the Head of Music will also be expected to fulfill the responsibilities of a teacher in the school.
This includes but is not limited to: taking on the role of a form tutor; communicating on progress via reports and parent meetings; supporting supervision of students throughout the school day; covering lessons for absent colleagues and contributing positively to the wider life of the school.
**THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE**:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in education (or PGCE / equivalent)
- Established experience teaching and leading music in a range of educational settings
- Experience of contributing to/ involvement in a high quality extra and co-curricular musical provision
- Genuine interest in developing a best in class curricular and co-curricular music programme and the interpersonal and leadership skills to implement this
- High professional standards and a dedication to excellence across all aspects of school provision
- Confident piano and singing skills
- Excellent written and spoken English
- A positive and flexible approach to school life and middle leadership
- Resilience and determination
- Experience of implementing and leading quality assurance processes for continuous improvement
- Some ability to speak Italian is desirable although not essential
- Enjoyment and genuine interest in working with and learning from stud
