Job DescriptionHVAC Copper TechnicianThe HVAC Copper Technician is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing copper piping systems for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems.
This role involves working with copper tubing and fittings for refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating systems in both residential and commercial settings.
The HVAC Copper Technician ensures that all piping and soldering work is done to the highest quality standards, complying with safety codes and project specifications. Key Responsibilities:Copper Pipe Fabrication & Installation:- Measure, cut, bend, and thread copper tubing according to system specifications and blueprints. - Install and secure copper pipes for HVAC systems, including refrigeration and air conditioning units. - Solder, braze, or weld copper joints and fittings to ensure leak-free connections. - Perform pressure testing on installed piping systems to ensure proper sealing and operation. System Maintenance & Repair:- Inspect existing copper pipe systems for wear, leaks, and damage. - Repair or replace defective or aging copper pipes and fittings. - Perform routine maintenance on HVAC systems involving copper components to ensure optimal performance. Collaboration with HVAC Teams:- Work closely with HVAC technicians, engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless installation and integration of copper piping with the overall HVAC system. - Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and other trades to ensure proper system setup and adherence to project schedules. Blueprint Reading & Interpretation:- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to accurately layout and install copper piping systems. - Follow project specifications, local codes, and manufacturer guidelines when installing copper piping for HVAC systems. Safety & Compliance:- Adhere to all safety standards and protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). - Ensure all copper piping systems comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations. - Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that hazardous materials and tools are stored properly. Quality Assurance:- Perform quality control checks on all piping installations to ensure the system operates efficiently and without leaks. - Ensure all soldering, brazing, and welding meet industry standards and project requirements. Material & Tool Management:- Manage and maintain tools and equipment necessary for copper pipe installation, including soldering torches, pipe benders, and cutters. - Keep an inventory of copper tubing, fittings, and materials required for each job, ensuring timely availability of resources. Qualifications:Educational Requirements:- High school diploma or GED. - Vocational training in HVAC systems, plumbing, or pipefitting is beneficial. - Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical certification in HVAC is highly beneficial. Experience:- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with copper piping in HVAC, plumbing, or related fields. - Experience with soldering, brazing, and welding techniques specific to copper piping systems. - Knowledge of HVAC systems, particularly those involving refrigeration and air conditioning. Skills:- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools required for cutting, bending, and soldering copper tubing. - Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. - Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately. - Good problem-solving skills, especially when troubleshooting issues with copper pipe installations. - Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in confined spaces or at heights. Other Requirements:- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations related to HVAC and plumbing systems. - Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with other trades and project teams. - Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on job sites. - Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job locations. - Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings as required by employers.
