PROJECT TITLE Territorial biorefineries for circular economy DESCRIPTIONFraunhofer Italia with headquarters in Bolzano (Italy) is offering an internship position, which can be connected with a master's thesis, in its research group Bioeconomy & Sustainability (BES).

This group focuses on the development of projects and initiatives on how to best integrate and promote sustainability in industrial processes, business strategies and territorial development (both practical and in terms of governance). THE TOPICThe project involves integrating the student into the "TeBiCE - Territorial Biorefineries for Circular Economy" initiative under the "Interreg Central Europe" program, co-financed by the European Union.

The aim is to enhance value chains by developing biorefineries from by-products of the primary and agro-industrial sectors.

Key objectives include upgrading existing technologies, overcoming market economic barriers to make bioproducts competitive with virgin materials, and addressing regulatory and political obstacles to harmonize material quality standards.

The student will actively contribute to pilot studies with companies, compare current value chains with simulated models, analyse data, and present findings.

Periodic meetings and participation in stakeholder events are also planned. Requirements:You are finishing a M. Sc.

degree in Sustainable Technologies for Circular Economy, Sustainability Management, Environmental science/engineering, Management engineering, Industrial engineering for environmental sustainability. You have basic knowledge in quantifying sustainability impacts, understanding of Sustainability strategies and Innovation management for Circular economy, Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Carbon Footprint.

You work independently, systematically and have a high degree of commitment, creativity and team spirit. You speak either Italian or German and have good proficiency in English.

Your taskYour main activity will involve the study and the development of concepts, with their implementation and validation.

The work will start from reviewing relevant state-of-the-art, getting familiar with the analysis of primary and agro-food sectors and evaluate the impact of industrial processes.

Depending on the type of position (internship or thesis), the focus can be adapted to be more on system/application and methodological development, respectively.
