We partner with over 180000 professional translators, i. e.

about a third of the translator workforce alive today.

Our 140 clients range from the private person who needs their CV translated to the very big, like Google and Airbnb.

We have invested over 6 in R&D in the past years.

Our EU FP7 project Matecatproduced the translation GUI which allows our translators to edit sentence translations without having to worry about document layout and formatting at all.

WithModernMT, another H2020 project which won an accolade from the EU as one of the 3 best projects of the call, we developed our neural adaptive machine translation technology, which is available open-source on Github.

We use AI techniques in several places in our platform.

Of course, machine translation is our core enabling technology.

Beyond that, we use ML to deal with our massive pool of translators:

for instance, assigning an incoming translation job to the best qualified translator available is an algorithmic process which uses matches against the translator's job history, as well as past performance.

We also need to rank translators for whom we have no performance data:

our algorithms produce estimates based on their CVs.

The project

We receive translationquality information in different forms:

corrections from reviewers on segments already translated, segment-level (grammar, translation, style) error flags, job-level performance grades.

We need to infer some latent variables like translator performance (maybe conditional on the job category), the job's intrinsic difficulty, reviewer severity|lenience.

To represent priors and evidence, represent uncertainty, learn in a principled way from different sources of information, we have started working on the problem with hierarchical Bayesian modelling. Using probabilistic programming, e. g.

Pymc3, PyStan, Tensorflow Edward, can we model our linguistic QA (quality assurance) processes, i. e.

translation scoring, quality score prediction etc.

you are familar with practical issues surrounding probabilistic modelling, MCMC|VI diagnostics, model criticism, choice of distributions, vectorization

Applying

Your internship

Your mentor will be Sbastien Bratires, our Director of AI.

As an intern you will receive a monthly allowance to cover your costs.

We will make sure you learn on the job, by helping you find and understand the scientific literature you need.

We will build in time for you to write up your internship report.

By the end of your internship, you should expect to have learnt about the AI|ML ecosystem, about future career opportunities, learnt how to pitch your project, and much more.

Given the current circumstances, part or all of your internship might be remote.

We prefer if you can be on site, but we can make work remotely too if need be.
