**THE ROLE

The Mechanical WorkShop (MWS) facility supports the research carried out at IIT by providing support in the design, development, and construction of mechanical systems.

In this context, we are looking for a highly motivated technician to support the research activities by designing, prototyping, and testing advanced bioinspired soft robotic systems.

The main responsibilities will include:

- Design and fabrication of soft robots.

- Developing mechatronic systems, with specific focus on interfacing different robotic platforms.

- Developing actuation mechanisms for soft robotics.

- Design and development of mockups and setups.

- Procurement of materials.

- Prototyping and testing.

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Manufacturing, or related fields;

- Strong basic knowledge on mechanical engineering;

- Proficiency in 3D drawing design and related tools (PTC Creo, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or others);

- Knowledge and proven experience on fast prototyping and 3D printing technologies;

- Analytical reasoning;

- Strong communication and English language skills (written and spoken);

- Teamwork;

- The ability to properly report, organize, and publish research data.

**ADDITIONAL SKILLS

- Holding a Ph. D. in one of the fields mentioned above or related is not mandatory, but it will be considered positively.

- Experience and knowledge of one or more of the following prototyping techniques and machining: versa laser, CNC machine, molding and casting, FDM or other 3D printing methods.

- Experience and knowledge of fabrication of soft materials parts and components.

- Previous experience in the design and realization of experimental robotic systems.

- Experience in the field of soft robotics and/or bioinspired robotics.

- Good communication skills.

- Strong problem-solving attitude.

- High motivation to learn.

- Spirit of innovation and creativity.

- Good at the time and priority management.

- Ability to work in a challenging and international environment.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
