Position InformationThe Department of History at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment at the rank of Lecturer for a scholar of Ancient Greece and/or Ancient Rome, beginning August 16, 2025.

The ideal candidate will hold or expect to hold a Ph. D. in History or Archaeology (or the international equivalent) by July 16, 2025. Scholars who focus on any aspect of Ancient Greece/Rome are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will be able to teach an introductory course on the history of the ancient world as well as specialized courses on either ancient Greece from the Bronze Age through 30 BC or the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire.

The ideal candidate also will be able to teach an introductory course and an intermediate course in either Greek or Latin.

An ability to teach a specialized course on the archaeology of ancient Greece would be welcomed. Gonzaga University is a Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic institution, and the History Department is interested in candidates who will contribute to the University's distinctive mission of educating students for lives of leadership and service for the common good.

Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching methods and materials intentionally foster the full participation and engagement of our students, with particular attention to students with marginalized identities and cultures.

A willingness to participate in the life of the History Department and the Classical Civilizations Department would be welcomed but is not required. ResponsibilitiesTeach four courses per semester, equivalent of 12 credits.

These will include multiple sections of an introductory course and one specialized course as well as (preferably) one course in Greek or Latin each semester. Hold four office hours per week (and be sufficiently available by appointment at other times) for the primary purpose of engaging with students beyond the classroom. Minimum QualificationsPh. D.

Hiring SalaryThe budgeted annual salary that the University reasonably expects to offer this position is $66, 460; commensurate with education and experience.

The internal salary range for this position is $66, 460 - $70, 890.
