About this career opportunity
We are looking for a lawyer with experience of construction law, professional services, professional indemnity insurance and/or related fields.
Ideally full-time, however we are also willing to consider offering the role on a part-time basis.
Must be a qualified lawyer, ideally with around 2-4 years PQE, gained in private practice or as part of an in-house team.
You will provide legal support and advice on a broad range of issues relevant to a professional services business, including reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, ongoing project advice, dispute resolution and broader strategic matters.
Common sense, a collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal skills and an ability to juggle a large and diverse workload are essential.
Knowledge of other areas of law arising in the industry is useful, eg health and safety law, planning & environmental law, intellectual property / digital law, data privacy or public procurement law.
We are a small in-house regional team, supporting Arup across 9 countries in the Europe Region (Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Turkey).
Location for the role is flexible across our European offices.
We are also part of the highly-connected Global legal team in Arup which offers many opportunities for development.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
- Working directly with the business to provide legal advice and support in defined areas
- Advising on more complex contractual arrangements such as JVs, WWC, BIA contracts or disputes
- Responsible for own area of the business / geography, using as opportunity to develop strong internal network
- Identifying training needs with the business and developing/presenting tailored workshops
- Developing a strong rapport with senior business leaders and their teams
- Drafting and reviewing standard/non-standard forms of contracts and other commercial contracts with limited supervision
- Preparing for and conducting more complex negotiations either individually or with senior support
- Identifying areas requiring technical improvement and seeking to address this through further learning
- Displaying an interest in technical issues pertinent to Arup's business
- Working collaboratively within a mutually supportive environment, focus on team success
- Providing input into the ongoing skills development of others within the legal team; identifying areas of improvement for the benefit of the whole team
- Taking ownership of initiatives/small strategic projects
Skills and Experience required
- Must be a qualified lawyer, ideally with 2-4 years PQE
- Experience advising on basic contracts; developing confidence handling more complex arrangements
- Professional services/professional indemnity insurance experience ideal
- Ability to develop and maintain successful client and team relationships quickly
- Experience with internal and external negotiations
- Creativity and resourcefulness when addressing challenges/solving problems
- Ability to assess workload and manage delivery expectations (internally and externally) appropriately
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise work and meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel
