BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations humanitarian agency dedicated to tackling hunger and malnutrition worldwide.
Due to its expertise in humanitarian logistics, the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC -The IASC consists of the executive heads of 19 organisations and consortia to formulate policy, set strategic priorities and mobilise resources in response to humanitarian crises and is chaired by the Emergency Relief Coordinator.
With members from within and outside the United Nations, the IASC strengthens collective humanitarian action through the implementation of a coherent, unified response) selected WFP as the lead agency for the Logistics Cluster in 2010.
The Logistics Cluster adheres to and promotes the values of the Logistics Cluster: collaboration, professionalism and agility, localisation and sustainability, and accountability (as included in the Logistics Cluster Strategy 2022 - 2026.

FUNCTION PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to complement, build on, and enact the outcomes of the current Logistics Cluster Medical Logistics Working Group, which includes partner attendance from donors, INGOs and UN agencies, and others; as well as providing direct operational guidance and support, to ensure Logistics Cluster operations - largely in Africa - are more able to support the whole of the humanitarian response and national governments therein.
It is intended for this role to create standardized ways of working, SOPs, and institutionalise them within the cluster teams at HQ and country level.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend and actively participate in the Logistics Cluster lead Medical Logistics Working Group, and support the synthesis and development of new ideas and practices across the Logistics Cluster community of partners.
- Review portfolio of coordination, information management, and service provision activities undertaken by Logistics Cluster operations in the field that overlap with health-related supply chain and provide guidance and information on how Cluster activities can conform and bolster pre-existing accepted best practices and WFP internal guidelines.
- Review available SOPs, guidelines, training materials and systems as they pertain to health supply chain management - available both internal to WFP and Logistics Cluster activities, and from external globally recognized experts - and craft streamlined guidance for WFP field operations and cooperating partners.
- Work with the WFP and Logistics Cluster training teams to provide input on to current training activities as needed.
- Contribute to basic guidance to Logistics Cluster coordinators and other new field staff regarding best practices and minimum requirements of health supply chain management.
-Support the review and development of new Logistics Cluster activities and proposals in both emergency and non-emergency contexts, with a focus on ensuring that health supply chain needs are adequately planned and incorporated.
-Support and participate in ongoing Logistics Cluster supported working groups and activities, including field Customs and Importation working groups, field level medical logistic working groups, interagency meetings
