Job Summary Reporting to the Vice President of Growth & Emerging Markets, the Managing Director for Italy will be responsible for overseeing and expanding the Italian business.
This role involves defining the strategic vision to develop the enterprise market, establishing a robust network of decision-makers among prospects, customers, and channel partners, and providing thought leadership to drive new business and growth while safeguarding strategic accounts in key markets.
The Managing Director will cultivate strong relationships with government and regulatory bodies, as well as industry stakeholders, to uphold Equinix's reputation and influence relevant policy areas.
Additionally, this role will implement power and energy strategies, leveraging market insights, and serve as an executive sponsor for key customers.
The Managing Director will promote a culture of inclusion and innovation, manage crisis situations, and advocate for the localised enablement of Equinix's operating system.
The ideal candidate will embody the Magic of Equinix, upholding cultural values for employees, attracting top talent, and effectively managing the current business in Italy while overseeing expansions, including x-Scale initiatives.
This position will be based in Milan.
Responsibilities: Own the 5-year vision for the country / market, market opportunity and competitive position. Lead development of a 1–3-year metro strategy plan for each metro, to include objectives for retail verticals, networks and hyperscale. Partner with Corporate Development / Commercial Finance / Sales to develop, drive and execute the market development plan and metro strategy. Drive retail growth and retail leadership in market. Be the most senior business leader in Italy and play an active role as the country representative on the regional GEM leadership team. Inspirational leadership of the Italian team to deliver the Equinix strategic goals whilst securing high employee satisfaction and strong engagement of the team. Identify, motivate, sponsor, develop, and highlight key talent. Ensure all employees understand our Purpose. Provide local business expertise to shape strategic decisions. Contribute to the development of Equinix's strategy in the region and globally by representing the specific market requirements of the country within the company. Achieve regional P&L (EMEA). Lead and manage through any crisis. Knowledge and Skills: Ability to determine and present clear strategic direction for the Italian market with the emphasis on enterprise/retail business through channel partnership. Proven ability to see the 'bigger long-term picture' and think strategically while achieving short-term results. Focus on execution and results – establishing high standards for performance, setting goals and developing plans, following through, and holding people accountable for results. Driven, self-starting style with the impetus for growth and commercial success. Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations. Extensive demonstrated track record in general management as a MD or enterprise sales leader. Proven and entrepreneurial General Manager with previous P&L responsibility, and ideally with experience gained at a US technology company. Knowledge of the business challenges facing enterprise executives that are driving needs for interconnection services. Experience of establishing and scaling direct enterprise sales and partner models. Experience of selling to a whole spectrum of industries including network and mobile providers, cloud and IT services, content providers, financial services, automotive etc. Experience with recurring revenue, sales complexity, solution selling, readying platforms for B2B.
