Mechanical Engineering Manager

We have an exciting opportunity in Estates and Facilities Management - Engineering and Maintenance for someone with an ability to ensure that the mechanical services on the University estate are sound, safe and legally compliant and that policies, procedures and standards for planned maintenance and inspection are understood and implemented effectively.
We are looking for an individual with an ability to process and prioritise requests for reactive and planned maintenance from the EFM helpdesk.
You will also be required to contact and visit the relevant sites and departments to arrange and agree specific works and measures.
As well as being responsible for ensuring that all statutory maintenance is managed and addressed in a timely manner for example pressure systems, boiler servicing and local exhaust ventilation systems, there will also be a need to ensure that comprehensive records are maintained.
The Mechanical Engineering Manager will also issue orders and instructions for maintenance works to be carried out in a timely and cost efficient manner either by University staff or outside contractors, ensuring compliance with current legislation and health and safety procedures.
There will be a need to manage a team of University technical staff and contractors on site, inspecting works and ensuring that all are carried out to specification, programme and budget.
Having excellent project management skills, significant experience and qualifications in an appropriate Engineering discipline, you will also have good communication skills and be able to form good working relationships with a wide range of people.
It is also essential to have knowledge of relevant systems, policies, legislation and quality standards.
There will also be a need to possess experience of motivating a team of staff and an ability to motivate high performance in others.
The Engineering and Maintenance function comprises a large budget with circa 140 staff including highly specialist engineers as well as in house electrical, mechanical and trade staff as well as a large number of contractors.
The function is embarking on a period of transformation, seeking the most efficient and cost effective combinations of services and organising them to ensure the provision of proactive, high quality, high value services to the University.
