Medical Director, Italy
Position Overview
To strengthen our Medical organization, we are looking for an exceptional Medical Director based in Milano/Italy and reporting to the VP, Global Med Affairs - GHI Oncology Medical Affairs.
The Medical Director is responsible for all medical affairs activities in Italy.
Representing the medical function, this individual manages research and educational medical objectives, while supporting commercial business and reimbursement objectives for the Oncotype DX portfolio of products, most notably, the Oncotype DX Breast Cancer Assay.
Near term business objectives include supporting growth of the breast assay in the newly reimbursed region of Lombardy, while pursuing further reimbursement in other regions of Italy.
The medical director plays a key role in providing medical information and education through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner to medical oncology, surgeon, and pathology Key Opinion Leaders as well as other healthcare professionals in breast cancer.
In time, the medical director may support other new product introductions in oncology.
The role supports the company's R&D and investigator-initiated studies in the development and commercialization of genomic assays that lead to improved treatment decisions for oncology patients.
While the primary focus of the role is on Italy, the medical director is also relied upon to support several additional countries in SEMEA, where business is conducted through distributors.
This position requires professionals with established personal and scientific creditability to interact with thought leaders, government health authorities, and medical centers of excellence.
Essential Duties
Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop a national Medical Affairs Strategic Plan for Italy, which include plans for Key Opinion Leader engagement, Educational and Guideline Initiatives, Reimbursement Initiatives, and Strategic Studies, that align with the Commercial Business Objectives set by the Country Manager.
- Support medical education, reimbursement needs, and physician customer support through distributors in SEMEA.
- Identify and engage international, national, and regional thought leaders in breast cancer within assigned international geographic regions to conduct scientific discussions and understand insights related to molecular diagnostics in early breast cancer management, while also establishing and maintaining professional relationships with them.
- Act as primary contact for investigators interested in developing and performing studies with the company's commercially available assays in breast cancer.
- Lead national and regional Advisory Boards when external advice is needed.
- Provide clinical presentations and information in academic, community, and healthcare provider setting in both group and one-on-one situations.
- Support regional reimbursement needs in submission of written dossiers, responses to health technology assessment requests, and clinical presentations to government health authorities.
- Execution of education and medical sales training plans in alignment with commercial plans of action.
- Assist in R&D and investigator-initiated studies as appropriate.
- Provide Scientific and Medical updates/presentations in local reimbursement discussions.
- Provide scientific support at medical congresses.
- Provide scientific support for appropriate educational initiatives.
- Assure compliance with relevant corporate policies, and European, national, and regional regulatory requirements.
- Provide feedback and medical input to local commercial plans and strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Medical Doctor.
- 3+years of therapeutic clinical experience.
- Excellent Italian and English language skills.
- As the regional company office is located in Milan, Italy, the position is expected to be located within commuting distance of central Milan.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pharma/biotech Industry is a strong plus.
- Expertise in oncology, breast cancer in particular, or diagnostics.
- Skills in additional multiple languages, such as French and/or German are desirable.
- An established network of physicians involved in treating breast cancer in Italy.
